That was a welcome return to form for the three-year-old, and he can account for Shawaaheq, who looked to enjoy fast ground when a narrow second at Leicester 19 days ago, and Serengeti Song, who outran big odds at Thirsk last month to finish sixth of 20 in a competitive handicap.

Oh Purple Reign followed up his Nottingham debut success with an eye-catching display when runner-up to Pinatubo in the Woodcote at Epsom last Friday. Dream Shot won nicely at Goodwood but will need to handle the preliminaries better against stronger opposition, so the vote goes to SUMMER SANDS. Richard Fahey's colt placed in novice company at York, when making good progress in the closing stages, and that form has worked out well with the second and fifth both subsequent winners.
