AL AAKIF unseated his rider on the way to post and raced keenly once the action was underway when making his racecourse debut at Nottingham, yet he still returned a comfortable winner. There could be improvement to come from William Haggas' charge over this longer trip and he shades the vote ahead of improving Mark Johnston representative Good Night Mr Tom and Imperial Command, who should be all the wiser for the experience gained on debut at Windsor in April.

In a wide-open contest the preference is for WENTWORTH FALLS, who filled second place behind Soldier's Minute over course and distance two starts ago. The seven-year-old is 8lb better off with that rival today and this race could set up perfectly for him. Intisaab was fifth in that same contest here last month and he can win a race of this nature based on his encouraging run in the Wokingham last weekend. Lake Volta should run his usual solid race, while it would be no surprise to see Justanotherbottle make the frame off what appears to be a lenient handicap mark.

Furzig (second) wasn't far behind Poet's Dawn (first) over a furlong further here two weeks ago and could reverse those placings now better off at the weights. Fast ground would also be a concern for the latter, though it is worth mentioning that his trainer won this in 2017 and 2018. A tentative vote goes the way of MARKAZI, who was third in the aforementioned contest and should benefit more than that pair for this drop back to a mile.

TRUE DESTINY has kept on progressing throughout this season and ran an excellent race on ground potentially softer than ideal when second at Pontefract earlier in the month. He remains unexposed on turf, in particular on faster underfoot conditions based on his impressive Nottingham victory in May, and appears capable of defying a career-high mark. Trautmann, October Storm and Liva head the shortlist of threats, with the first-named of particular interest after his win at Ayr last Friday.

Society Guest's experience could count for a lot in this contest and she warrants plenty of respect following a solid third-placed effort over 1m at Newmarket, but MUBTASIMAH looks the one to beat. William Haggas' charge was a big eye-catcher on her debut over 6f at Yarmouth in August, finishing powerfully after a slow start and trouble in running, and she is likely to have improved during her 307 days away from the track. Newcomer Angel Lane might beat Alnaseem to third.

ROMAN RIVER's second at Newmarket in April took a significant boost when the winner of that contest, Ornate, landed the Epsom Dash at the start of the month. Martin Smith's colt went up 3lb for that effort but may have a bigger performance in the locker. Last year's winner Fendale is respected despite being 4lb higher in the handicap, while others worthy of consideration include Lomu, on his second outing after a wind operation, and Music Society.

CLAIRE UNDERWOOD can be forgiven a below-par effort on testing ground at Pontefract last time and looks worth keeping onside now back on a sounder terrain under excellent apprentice rider Sean Davis. Pirate King wasn't disgraced in a better race over further 35 days ago and should appreciate these conditions, while Gossip Column and the progressive My Boy Sepoy are other names to take seriously. Billy Ray would appeal if some unexpected rain arrived.
