UK Horse Racing Tips: Catterick

It's never easy for these juveniles to win under a penalty, but ROSE BANDIT impressed when making all to hold off odds-on favourite Asmund at Hamilton on Saturday and the demands of this track should suit Stef Keniry's filly. The two realistic dangers appear to be Requiems Dream, who left her debut performance well behind when runner-up at Ripon, and the 64-rated Microscopic, a rare Catterick runner for David Simcock (two from four here over the last five years).

ADAM'S ALE and Naadirr are the joint top-rated performers in this line-up and although neither have been particularly lucky with the draw, they both hold solid claims. The former showed that he maintains plenty of his old ability when fifth on his seasonal reappearance in a similar C&D event 16 days ago and shades the verdict ahead of Kevin Ryan's class dropper. Betsey Trotter, not beaten far in a 0-80 handicap over 7f here last time, is another name to note.

QUINTADA arrives on the back of a couple of solid third-placed efforts in 0-90 handicaps and this drop in class, along with a slightly-decreasing official rating, can see her regain the winning thread. Shagalla is Roger Varian's first Catterick runner this year and although yet to impress as a three-year-old, she has a definite chance on her juvenile form. Bollin Joan disappointed at Beverley last time whereas Joie De Vivre won nicely at Thirsk, although that came on much slower ground.

ZUMURUD has hit the crossbar three times this term, including at Nottingham last time when only beaten a neck. Rebeccas Bastiman's four-year-old could land a deserved victory today off just a 2lb higher rating. Rose Marmara is 5lb lower than when landing this contest last season and despite struggling so far this term, a return to a venue she has won three of her six outings at brings the six-year-old into calculations. Highland Acclaim has been in good form at Epsom the last twice and is respected, while track-and-trip winner Spirit Of Wedza is another for the shortlist.

MID ATLANTIC STORM has looked a useful performer in two outings so far and Gavin Cromwell's Irish raider could have the perfect trip dropping back to seven furlongs, having only faded late in the day over a mile last time. Raksha steps up in distance looking to make amends to supporters who sent her off favourite last time, while Oblate outran her odds of 66/1 at Beverley recently and could build on that effort.

THE DEFIANT has been in great form for Paul Midgley this term and although he was denied a hat-trick when competing against his own age group here last time, he might have a bit more improvement in his locker now taking on older horses. Indian Pursuit has been holding his form well this season and commands respect with winning course form in the book. The pick of the remainder may be Longroom, who sports first-time cheekpieces.

C&D winner BE PERFECT followed up his 1m5f victory at Hamilton with a solid effort in defeat off this mark at Epsom last time and could feasibly get back on the winning trail now eased into 0-65 company. Orobas bolted up over 1m at Brighton on his penultimate outing and has also run well over this much longer trip in the past. He has place claims along with My Renaissance, who ran better than the bare form suggests when returning from a spell on the NH scene at Ripon on Monday.
