Pondus drops in both trip and class after finishing sixth in the King Edward VII Stakes and should be competitive from the front end, with Godolphin's First Nation respected after bouncing back to form in the Gala Stakes.

The Grand Visir produced a career-best performance when landing the Ascot Stakes and must enter calculations with a tongue-tie and cheekpieces fitted together for the first time, while Withhold, making his first outing post wind surgery, and Northumberland Plate first and third, Who Dares Wins and Proschema, add further spice to the race.

It is very hard to oppose VENTURA REBEL, who is the class act in this field having been beaten just a neck in the Norfolk at Royal Ascot last time. His two previous victories suggest that there was no fluke about that performance and he represents a yard who have won this race three times in the last six years. Those looking for an each-way alternative, against what is likely to be a short-priced favourite, should consider Electric Ladyland. Archie Watson's filly has not been beaten far in a pair of Listed races and that includes a respectable effort in the Windsor Castle 31 days ago. Mighty Spirit also ran well at the Royal meeting, finishing sixth in the Queen Mary, but it is a concern that she was beaten when an odds-on favourite in a moderate contest earlier this month. Others who could go well are Emten, Never In Paris and Separate.
