LEXINGTON QUEST was an encouraging fourth over this distance at Lingfield last time and rates the one to beat this time around. Max's Thunder's best novice form entitles him to consideration and he looks one of the more likely types with Oisin Murphy in the saddle, while Walkonby and Chateau Peapod both remain open to improvement and are others for the shortlist.

Charlie Appleby boasts a 39 per cent strike-rate with his two-year-olds this term (37 per cent at this track) and his 1,000,000gns newcomer VOLKAN STAR could therefore be the one to side with. Vindicate is an interesting newcomer for Sir Michael Stoute and The Queen, while Red Missile and Baptism are two other debutants from top yards who also merit consideration.

OUTBOX came out second best in a tussle with the gutsy King's Advice at Goodwood last week but has the chance to gain some deserved compensation off the same mark now sporting first-time cheekpieces. This is possibly Almost Midnight's optimum trip and he is rated just 3lb higher than when runner-up at Ascot last time, while Corelli was second over track and trip earlier this term and has to be respected now dropped in distance.

MUBTASIMAH has struck on both outings since returning to action this summer and the 160,000-euro Dark Angel filly could have plenty more to come now switching to the handicap ranks in search of a hat-trick. The consistent Maamora was a winner in handicap company at Sandown last time and is respected under a 6lb penalty, while John Gosden's Pennywhistle is tried in first-time blinkers and could also figure.

Colonel Frank recorded a nose victory over course and distance last time and could have leading claims once again under a 5lb penalty. Preference, however, is for track-and-trip winner ICE LORD, who was an encouraging reappearance fourth in a contest that has produced winners and could build on that effort following a short break.
