Based on that form, Charlie Appleby's first-time gelding should be capable of scoring off his current mark. Motawaj won well at Sandown last time and he has to be respected, despite a 15lb rise in the ratings. Beatboxer, Davydenko and Dubai Legacy all failed to fire in the Britannia, but it is too soon to be writing them off.

LIGHT BLUSH confirmed the promise that she displayed when making a winning debut over C&D by finishing a close second in a Listed race at Sandown 16 days ago. This race is not much stronger and the daughter of Kodiac should take plenty of beating. Ultra Violet did not beat much when winning here in June, but she could have hardly have been more impressive and merits a crack at this level. Others to consider are Diamond Sparkles and Soffika.

NAHAARR continued his unbeaten run with another impressive display at Chelmsford under a penalty, following on from his five-length C&D victory at the end of June, and a 12lb rise may not be enough to stop the son of Dark Angel winning again. Qaysar won in decisive fashion at Newbury on Tuesday and he is likely to remain competitive under a 5lb penalty. Daarik, who has been gelded since his second at Newcastle in April, and Salateen complete the shortlist.

HOWMAN shaped well on his return to action when second at Newcastle, against a race-fit rival at the end of June, and Roger Varian's gelding looks to have further improvement to come on the evidence of that performance. Desert Icon didn't run to his best in a competitive 1m4f Goodwood handicap 10 days ago but the drop in distance could see him bounce back, while Eynhallow boasts some strong handicap form and, if ready to go after a 414-day absence, is capable of a decent showing.
