UK Horse Racing Tips: Newmarket

Scentasia has twice won over 1m on fast ground at Yarmouth since early August and warrants respect, but John Gosden's filly might be worth taking on given she has yet to win over this far or on a soft surface. The vote goes to Richard Fahey's EVA MARIA, who impressively won a Thirsk 1m novice event on good to soft three starts ago and then struck again over this trip at Ayr last time. Course scorer Nearooz also merits consideration after winning at Lingfield 30 days ago.

UNDER THE STARS has earned a rating of 105 with five cracking performances this season, including when beaten a length in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes over 7f here last week, and she will prove difficult to beat with normal luck. Lambeth Walk also brings solid Group form to the table, finishing fourth in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes on the July Course three runs ago, and she warrants respect, while Weatherbys Super Sprint winner Bettys Hope completes the shortlist.

NEVER ALONE built on his pleasing debut performance (over 7f on the July Course) when a head second over this trip at Sandown and, providing he handles forecast soft conditions, Charlie Appleby's charge could make it third time lucky. Godolphin certainly aren't short of ammunition here as Kempton debut scorer White Moonlight also looks to have a solid chance, while Man Of The Night must enter calculations having posted three solid efforts to date. Don't be surprised if Shoshone Warrior takes giant strides forward from his opening sixth either.

LAURENS held on gamely to win this 12 months ago and Karl Burke's forward-going stable star will be looking to make most once again to successfully defend her crown. She has suffered two defeats since landing the Prix Rothschild in July, but the return to soft ground should suit here and the popular four-year-old could take some passing over a course and distance she is 2-3. Veracious produced a career best to take the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes when last seen and has to be taken seriously, while Aidan O'Brien has a fine recent record in this race and his dual Classic winner Hermosa could reverse Matron Stakes form with Iridessa over a track and trip she won the 1000 Guineas in May.

RAAEB obliged favourite backers on debut at Doncaster last month and it would be no surprise if Saeed Bin Suroor's Raven's pass colt excels once again now stepping up to seven furlongs for a team in flying form of late. Finest Sound has made the podium in two outings at Sandown and rates as one of the better runners with racecourse experience, while Al Qaqaa and Captivated are two interesting newcomers representing top yards.

MELBURNIAN was twice a winner in France and shaped with plenty of promise when fourth at Listowel three weeks ago. The four-year-old was the one to take from that race, handling soft ground well, and a mark of 74 could underestimate her level of ability. Strelka got off the mark at the third time of asking at Kempton last month and could be worth following now that the penny has dropped, while the in-form pair of Maybe Today and Oh It's Saucepot are also respected.

CLERISY found the step up to Listed company too hot to handle on just her third career start at York when last seen in May and could bounce back now in calmer waters after a break. The Kingman filly is also expected to benefit for the drop in distance and might not be badly handicapped off a mark of 85. Canton Queen returned to form when finding just one too good at Ascot four weeks ago, while Rhossili Down is interesting after a wind operation.
