VOLKAN STAR put his debut experience to good use when sauntering clear in a novice event at Goodwood in August and Charlie Appleby's colt appears to have further improvement to come for the step up in distance. Mythical took a big step forward when scoring in great style at Gowran last month and he can enter the reckoning along with the filly Miss Yoda, who is unbeaten in two outings, and Newbury winner Tritonic.

MOLATHAM boasts a strong level of form having built on his debut second to Mums Tipple at Ascot with victories in the Convivial at York and the Flying Scotsman at Doncaster. The form of the latter was given a significant boost when the runner-up, Wichita, bolted up here at the end of last month and the extra furlong is unlikely to prove an issue for Roger Varian's colt. Al Suhail has displayed plenty of ability, albeit with a few quirks, in his three outings to date and he could have more to offer for the step up in distance, being a half-brother to Dante winner Telecaster. Cherokee Trail, Persia and Military March add further spice to what could prove to be an informative contest.

PINATUBO has proven himself as an exceptional juvenile, improving with every start which culminated in a nine-length demolition in the National Stakes at the Curragh when last seen, and it is difficult to see Charlie Appleby's star not maintaining his unbeaten record. The son of Shamardal holds the majority of his rivals on various pieces of form obtained throughout the year and he can cement his position as champion two-year-old. Wichita has improved with each start and was impressive in his own right when landing the Tattersalls Stakes over C&D last month. He appears the only plausible threat to the selection, while Positive, winner of the Solario Stakes at Sandown, heads the remainder.

Three-year-olds regularly miss the cut in this contest due to the generous weight-for-age allowance they receive but Sir Mark Prescott's LAND OF OZ has managed to sneak in at the bottom of the weights this year and could feasibly follow up his win in the Cesarewitch Trial here last month. Penalised Haydock scorer Ranch Hand is similarly noted from the Classic generation. Of the older horses, Ascot Stakes second Buildmeupbuttercup is 4lb well-in after his near miss behind subsequent Group 3 winner Kastasa at Leopardstown and is expected to prove a warm order under under Frankie Dettori, while Who Dares Wins and Coeur de Lion both have each-way chances for Alan King.

It is interesting that Frankie Dettori is called on to ride Andre Fabre's French raider BRAVO SIERRA, who ran better than the bare result suggested over 7f in the Group 3 Prix du Pin at Longchamp last month, and was only beaten a short head by Prix de l'Abbaye winner Glass Slippers in a Deauville Listed contest over this trip on her penultimate start. Gypsy Spirit has been running with credit at this level over further and is interesting dropping back in trip, while William Haggas' Beauty Filly is another who could be suited by the reduced yardage she tries now and won't mind any cut in the ground. Gold Filigree (third) and Last Empire (fourth) weren't beaten far in Listed company at Ayr and could sneak onto the premises, with Farzeen's Doncaster effort better than it looks on paper.

MATTERHORN has been hammering on the door in good company of late, only beaten a neck at Leopardstown in the Group 2 Boomerang Stakes last time, and he won't mind the step up to 1m1f looking for a well deserved victory. Irish raider Pincheck was back in third then and has followed that up with a narrow defeat at Cork earlier this month, while track-and-trip winner Dolphin Vista was on the scoresheet in a Clairefontaine Listed race over this distance in August and is respected. Not much has been separating closely matched pair Duneflower and Look Around this season and both are respected, with the former part of a strong John Gosden challenge along with Crossed Baton.
