Battle Of Ideas returns from a break and won't mind this drop in trip, while Eclair De Guye was fifth at Southwell last month and is also taken seriously.

GOSHEN is rated 88 on the Flat and could make a winning debut over hurdles for last year's victorious yard. A half-brother to a Listed winner over hurdles, the three-year-old could be even better in this sphere and might have too much pace for French import Chez Hans. The latter won over 12 furlongs in his native country, and will likely pose a bigger threat to the selection than both Le Grand Rocher and Manucci.

COLONEL CUSTARD has the best form on offer having finished third in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las four weeks ago, and he should have come on markedly for that reappearance. The six-year-old was a progressive novice hurdler last season and, on recent evidence, has clearly done well over the summer. Song For Someone was deemed good enough to run in Grade 1 company at Aintree in April and can pose the biggest threat, just ahead of Betfair Hurdle fifth Ar Mest.

Shanroe Santos won this race 12 months ago and he has to be respected off just a 1lb higher mark, although he has not had a prep run this year. With that in mind, preference is for THE CALLER, who beat Chasma in the Durham National last month. A 6lb rise for that victory appears to be fair and he should not have a problem handling this soft ground. The Two Amigos and Captain Cattistock both have plenty of weight to carry but they're talented performers who should not be underestimated.

HOWLONGISAFOOT failed to fire last time out but his previous form, which includes a win at Uttoxeter, suggests that he can be successful in a race of this nature. Minella Voucher only found one too good at Taunton last time out and he is an obvious threat to the selection, while Spiritofchartwell merits a market inspection on his return from a 434-day break.

In a moderate race to close the card the marginal preference is for TRUCKERS TANGLE, after he finished second on his return from a 162-day break at Taunton late last month.
