UK Horse Racing Tips: Market Rasen

Every horse in this race was beaten over 20 lengths on their last start except Ninepointsixthree. Sam England's gelding had refused to race twice and was at risk of being reported to the BHA before eventually assenting to set off when third, beaten just over seven lengths, at Uttoxeter last time. Though that's the best recent performance on offer, he is a seriously risky proposition and perhaps THE HERDS GARDEN is a more likely candidate. Donald McCain's gelding won at Kelso in September and though beaten 22 lengths last time, he should find this company easier to cope with. Baracalu was well fancied when heavily beaten into third at Carlisle last time and could repay punters' faith here.

Millers Bank won quite convincingly at Bangor last time and has claims, while Multellie was a winner at Carlisle in October and went close on his return to the Cumbrian venue earlier this month. Both have to give weight to MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS here, which may prove too tough. Amy Murphy's Irish recruit was unfancied on his hurdling bow but pulled well clear of the remainder when second at Huntingdon and could go one better. Quart De Garde has some interesting French form to his name and cannot be left out of calculations.

ZOLFO has made light work of a pair of Bangor handicap chases, winning by six lengths over 2m4f at the Welsh circuit before returning to this sort of trip to score there last time. Jennie Candlish's charge is taken to complete the hat-trick despite a 6lb rise for his latest success. Fort De L'Ocean got within a length of success at Catterick last time and is interesting off the same mark, while Maxed Out King is unlikely to be improving at the age of 11, but he has been in good form recently and can make his presence felt.

Oscar Wilde was still travelling well enough when falling at Wetherby last time and could fare well with a clear round, while Sonic has run respectably in a trio of beginners chases at Cartmel so could be interesting on his handicap bow over the larger obstacles. Neachells Bridge was not disgraced in a decent contest at Ascot last time and has to be given a chance, but preference is for CLOUDY GLEN. Venetia Williams' charge was 17 lengths clear of the third when beaten a neck at Carlisle last time and gets another chance off the same mark, with Hugh Nugent taking a useful 5lb off.

VERY FIRST TIME is chasing a hat-trick for last year's winning trainer and is fancied to take some stopping under Conor Shoemark. Up 10lb for his recent Catterick success, he is ground-versatile and young enough at the age of seven to keep improving. Trio For Rio has a big weight to carry, but he shaped with greater promise when third at Chepstow 19 days ago and should enjoy this test of stamina, while Hugo 'n Taz makes his stable debut for David Pipe after a wind operation and has a nice profile for such a contest.

Olly Murphy and Aidan Coleman teamed up to claim this prize last year but Eaglehill will have to improve plenty for the application of first-time cheekpieces after some poor efforts just lately, while Head Lad struck here on stable debut for Dan Skelton 35 days ago and a follow up would be no great surprise. Slight preference, though, is for BELLS OF PETERBORO, who was unfortunate in defeat at Exeter earlier this month. Soft ground is important to him and Charlie Price's 5lb claim could make a huge difference.

Paricolor is progressing along nicely and is probably the one to beat chasing a three-timer for David Pipe, while Farmer Boy, a course winner, outran his 40-1 odds when fourth at Doncaster earlier this month and merits a second glance. That being said, HOMETOWN BOY has shown potential in three starts under Rules and might have been let in lightly on handicap debut off 114. Stuart Edmunds' charge has finished behind some smart types in his short career so far, and has been located a suitable opening.
