ALPHA CARINAE was purchased for 62,000 pounds in May following her impressive victory in an Irish point-to-point and there is every chance that the five-year-old mare will make a winning debut under Rules. Headscarf Lil has displayed plenty of promise in bumpers and she could prove to be the main threat to the selection, ahead of Red Dragoness and Bold Pearl. Prediction : 1st Alpha Carinae 2nd Headscarf Lil 3rd Red Dragoness

PADS scored by 10 lengths when last seen at Hexham 24 days ago and the veteran is clearly the one to beat here, despite a 7lb rise in the ratings. Pinch Of Ginger was awarded the race in the stewards' room at Catterick a week ago and he should be in the mix, while What's The Scoop is the pick of the remainder. Prediction : 1st Pads 2nd Pinch Of Ginger 3rd Whats The Scoop

OVERTHETOP failed to fire in a Grade 2 event at Sandown last time but the previously unbeaten son of Flemensfirth could outclass his rivals eased back in grade. Prince Kayf appears to be the only realistic danger having beaten the recent Cheltenham winner Imperial Alcazar here in November. The rest are likely to struggle but Bear That N Mind is the pick of them. Prediction : 1st Overthetop 2nd Prince Kayf 3rd Bear That N Mind

SAM'S ADVENTURE narrowly failed to score at this venue behind a winner who has since struck twice again and the eight-year-old could take some stopping today, despite a 5lb rise. Brian Ellison's charge has form figures of 412 at this venue, and could prove too strong at the line for Chepstow scorer Domaine De L'Isle, who needs to prove that he stays this distance. Looks Like Murt and Capard King add further spice to the race. Prediction : 1st Sams Adventure 2nd Domaine De LIsle 3rd Capard King

FLASH DE CLERVAL was a little disappointing on his English debut at Ascot in November, but he showed what he can do when a 23-length winner at Leicester 24 days ago and is expected to build on that. Dr Richard Newland's charge appears happy at this sort of trip for now, and might have too much pace for Adjutant, who was never really travelling when a beaten favourite at Stratford during the summer. Ayr bumper scorer Dusty's Choice also makes some appeal now switching to hurdles.Prediction : 1st Flash De Clerval 2nd Adjutant 3rd Dustys Choice
14:35 Newcastle
ALBERT'S BACK wasn't beaten too far when third behind a couple of useful rivals on his chasing debut at Wetherby and he wouldn't need to show much improvement to be opening his fences account. There was a lot to like about Schiehallion Munro's Catterick win over Captain Moirette and he lost little in defeat when second at Doncaster last month. He may need further in time but can keep the selection honest, while a market check could provide the best guide for Stradivarius Davis on his stable debut for Sandy Thomson. Prediction : 1st Alberts Back 2nd Schiehallion Munro 3rd Stradivarius Davis

It is interesting that ROBEAM, who was last seen in a Grade 2 at Doncaster, makes the switch to handicap company and he could be the answer here with first-time cheekpieces applied and Brian Hughes taking over in the saddle. Al Kherb had a pipe-opener on the all-weather last month and would have a chance if recapturing the best of his hurdles form, while Celtic Flames shaped nicely to finish third on his first run in 457 days at Hexham and might build on that off the same rating. Prediction : 1st Robeam 2nd Al Kherb 3rd Celtic Flames
