Mews House has struck the crossbar on his last couple of outings and is likely to be in the shake-up again, while Barbelo merits respect following a much-improved performance at Wolverhampton last time.

Karl Burke's filly produced a career-best performance when scoring over course and distance last time and a 3lb rise might not be enough to anchor her. Makambe has been running consistently well at this venue and looks sure to give another good account, while last year's winning handler Michael Appleby appears to have a solid hand with Forseti and Six Strings.

MERRYWEATHER looks to be another shrewd buy from The Horse Watchers and the Dunaden filly is unbeaten since joining Mick Appleby following two battling victories over this trip. He now goes in search of a hat-trick off a 5lb higher mark and the course-and-distance winner should be thereabouts once again. Mrs Upjohn built on two near-misses to get off the mark at the third attempt last time and is dangerous now entering the handicap ranks, while Breguet Boy is the most experienced of the trio and looked back to his best when winning at Wolverhampton earlier this month.

BLOWING DIXIE landed a comfortable track-and-trip victory here 11 days ago and Jane Chapple-Hyam's four-year-old is of real interest under a 5lb penalty. Angel Lane was second on that occasion and the course regular, with a fine venue record, is entitled to be thereabouts at the finish today. Chelmsford runner-up Motawaafeq and Seven Clans, another to run well over course and distance recently, also merit respect.

NATIONAL ANTHEM has made this place his home this month, winning by four lengths over 6f before striking over this trip latest. A 5lb penalty may not be enough to stop David Brown's unexposed sprinter and he can complete the hat-trick. Zylan won with a bit up his sleeve here last time and Paula Muir's claim negates the 4lb penalty, while Hareem Queen narrowly missed out at Newcastle most recently and she struck twice over C&D late last year.

Motahassen has some decent 1m course form to his name but this longer trip is a concern.
