Western Climate has been running well in defeat of late and could emerge as the main threat to the selection, with Hedgeinator and Native Robin others shortlisted.

JOBSONFIRE has been a revelation since being stepped up in trip, winning on all three starts in handicap company and arriving on the back of another easy success over 3m1f at Carlisle 10 days ago. Sam Allwood's eight-year-old doesn't appear to have reached his ceiling yet and can strike again at the expense of handicap debutant Sandymount Rose and Little Red Lion, the latter of whom ran well to finish second at Lingfield after wind surgery last month.

Aqua Dude was a useful performer under Rules for Evan Williams but has clearly proven to be fragile, having spent over two years off the track from November 2017. He was also pulled up on his sole subsequent outing in a point-to-point in December and despite this drop back in trip promising to suit him on his hunter chase debut, the vote goes to RISK AND ROLL. The six-year-old got off the mark over the larger obstacles at Leicester earlier in the month and remains open to improvement over fences. Llancillo Lord pulled up at Fakenham recently but his best form has come over shorter distances so he could feasibly bounce back.

Tactical Manoeuvre was made to work hard for his hat-trick at this venue last time out when narrowly accounting for Russian Service and it will be interesting to see if he can confirm those placings. That form might not be the strongest, though, and preference is for Mark Gillard's VANDERBILT. A creditable runner-up on his latest outing at Wincanton, he is nicely treated on the best of his placed efforts in handicaps and is taken to open his account under Rules.

TIME TO TINKER is related to plenty of winners in this sphere and was probably the one to take from the race when second on debut at Exeter in December. Paul Nicholls has his string in excellent form currently so it will be disappointing if his son of Stowaway isn't competitive on these terms. Oneupmanship was a little disappointing at Chepstow over Christmas but previously showed potential when second at Uttoxeter, while Cherubin De Pail may prove best of the debutants.
