UK Horse Racing Tips: Southwell

LIGHT LILY wasn't deterred by the step up to a mile here last week and could claim a hat-trick for Paul D'Arcy. A 4lb rise doesn't look too harsh for that five-length success and, reunited with George Rooke once more, the pair can prove too strong for Rulers Kingdom, whose winning run was ended at Chelmsford last month. River Song remains open to improvement but might just need this first outing on Fibresand.

MESMERIC took a step forward from his debut when second over C&D recently and that bit of course form should stand him in good stead for this. Mark Johnston's charge finished well on that occasion and can take this before paying his way in handicap company. Dande has shown potential in two starts for Philip Makin at Newcastle and is worthy of respect, while Shoot To Win was a 66-1 second on his first start at Gosforth Park last month and also merits consideration.

LACAN gets the tentative vote in a tricky event. The New Approach gelding was once rated as high as 96 (48lb higher than today's mark) and could potentially improve for both a trainer switch and the application of blinkers. Tilsworth Rose was disappointing last time but had posted a number of solid performances prior to that. She goes well on this surface and merits shortlist inclusion, as does Parker's Boy, who posted a solid fourth-placed effort at Wolverhampton latest and now has Luke Morris on board.

CHARLIE ARTHUR has impressively notched a C&D double and, despite a further 3lb rise in the ratings, he is fancied to complete the hat-trick. The Eagle's Nest was narrowly denied his own three-timer at the track five days ago and he looks sure to give another good account, while veteran performer Mister Music should be winning before long but may have to settle for a supporting role in this contest.

ZYLAN was only caught late on over 7f here last time and Roger Fell's gelding makes plenty of appeal now dropping back in trip. The eight-year-old had also been reassessed by the handicapper before that effort and is able to race off a 2lb lower mark on this occasion. Airshow won over C&D three outings ago and could bounce back in first-time blinkers, while others to note include Doc Sportello and Samovar.

MUKHA MAGIC made a winning Fibresand debut when benefiting from the application of an eye shield (worn again) over C&D last Wednesday and the four-year-old makes plenty of appeal turned out swiftly under a 5lb penalty. Potenza progressed throughout 2019 and could have more to offer on his second outing for James Eustace, while Lopes Dancer is of interest back down to his last winning mark.
