GALLANT JOHN JOE arrives following two cracking efforts at Leopardstown, particularly when chasing home leading Arkle fancies Notebook and Cash Back in Grade 1 company last time, and Oliver McKiernan's seven-year-old looks like the one they all have to beat. His biggest danger appears to be Royal Rendezvous, who was two places and almost 14 lengths behind him at the Dublin Racing Festival. Dallas Des Pictons needs blinkers to sharpen him up.

Castle Oliver arrives seeking a four-timer and must enter calculations, while his owner JP McManus also has a solid chance with The Long Mile, a course winner who is on the improve but was also entered at Gowran on Saturday. Cheb De Kerviniou wears a first-time tongue-tie and makes the shortlist, but narrow preference is for CHOUNGAYA. He arrives relatively fresh having got no further than the first in the Thyestes and the form of his Leopardstown fourth before that reads well, finishing behind the likes of Easy Game and Allaho.

BEACON EDGE stepped up on his Punchestown success when a nose second in Grade 2 company here, and he may well have won but for a last-flight mistake. With further improvement on the cards, he should prove a tough nut to crack. Entoucas certainly wasn't winning out of turn at this track last month and looks sure to be in the shake-up again. Cedarwood Road slammed subsequent winner Jungle Junction at Leopardstown on St Stephen's Day and there should be plenty more to come from this lightly-raced five-year-old.

Kaatskill Nap has placed in each of his three hurdle starts so far and, despite the lengthy absence, must enter calculations, while Pat's Pick took a big step forward when fourth at Navan and should improve again for this extra three furlongs. However, it is the second from that race, THE VERY MAN, who gets the vote. He hasn't done too much wrong during his career to date and is also expected to appreciate stretching out in distance. Gold Des Bois is no forlorn hope but disappointed at Thurles recently.

This time last year, Anibale Fly chased home Al Boum Photo in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and reverts to hurdles off a comparatively lenient mark, having struggled in three Grade 1s so far this season. The 10-year-old is a fascinating runner and the market is likely to prove a good guide to his chances, but the hat-trick seeking IFICUDIWUD is a safer option. He returned from a break to win well at Fairyhouse and looks capable of defying a 7lb rise. Court Maid, who wears cheekpieces for the first time, and Mister Eddman are others to note.
