It's good to see Magical Memory back, although he isn't expected to make too much of an impact after such a long absence. Total Commitment does have fitness on his side following a good beginning to the year at Lingfield but so does SUMMERGHAND, who wasn't beaten far in a handful of appearances out in Dubai. David O'Meara's consistent sprinter hit the crossbar a couple of times over C&D in spring of last year and remains on a handy mark. Swindler could graduate beyond handicap company in time so has to be a danger, as is the selection's stablemate Gulliver.

BRANDO is eight now but showed no signs of slowing down last season, finding only Advertise too strong in the Prix Maurice de Gheest before a couple of excellent fourth placings at the highest level. This should tee him up nicely for another shot at the July Cup, in which he has made the frame twice before. He won this in 2017 and 2018 and can recapture his crown after finishing third behind Keystroke last year, with Stuart Williams' sprinter a danger again. Oxted signed off 2019 with Portland glory and will be fancied to take the next step up the ladder this campaign.

There has always been a bit of a buzz surrounding SANGARIUS and he stamped his class on the Hampton Court at last year's Royal meeting. His campaign was curtailed after that but remains an exciting prospect who could make his mark at the highest level and while this is short enough, it looks a good starting point. Mythical Magic has fitness on his side after going close in a couple of Meydan Group 2s, while a trip to Saudi Arabia didn't pay off for Momkin but new handler William Haggas still has plenty to work with this season. Century Dream has more than a touch of class about him, Vale Of Kent and Bless Him are quality handicappers, while Lord Tennyson is the dark horse.

GHAIYYATH produced a breathtaking performance to win the Group 3 Dubai Millennium Stakes at Meydan by over eight lengths in February and, with a record of two from two on this track, he gets the vote to land a cracking renewal of the Coronation Cup. Forecast quick ground isn't expected to be a problem, and he won over 1m4f at Baden-Baden in September. Last year's winner (at Epsom) Defoe also brings solid course form to the table and he posted a solid comeback performance at Meydan in March. Roger Varian's charge could well be sharper after that run and must enter calculations, as must the legendary Stradivarius, who went down by the narrowest of margins when chasing an 11th consecutive victory in the Long Distance Cup at Ascot in October. This trip will be short enough for him, though.

LOOK CLOSELY rates the one to beat on his handicap debut. He was ultra impressive when upped to 1m4f for the first time at Leicester in September, slamming an odds-on shot from Charlie Appleby's yard by six lengths, and potentially looks a fair bit better than his current mark of 90. Dubai Instinct certainly wasn't stopping when successful over 1m2f at Sandown in August and he warrants plenty of respect with Ryan Moore booked for his return, while Edinburgh Castle is another interesting player at the foot of the weights. He has been gelded since last sighted and steps up in trip for his handicap bow.

The beautifully-bred DELTA'S ROYALTY was all the rage heading into her racecourse debut at Kempton in December and she didn't disappoint, overcoming greenness to win by a cosy three-parts of a length. That experience will have done her the world of good and, unlikely to be inconvenienced by stepping up half a mile, she could make it two from two. The other experienced runners will have to improve some to beat her so put forward as bigger dangers are Renaissance Queen and Jane Marple, both newcomers representing powerful connections.

Astrogem, Coto Donana and Saucy Encore should all put their race experience too good use and it would be no surprise to see any of them in the mix this afternoon. That said, a chance can be taken with ZOOHOOR, who is a half-sister to the Group 2-placed Leshlaa and her dam is closely related to the former Ribblesdale winner Silkwood. Winter Halo is another newcomer by Dark Angel to note, having cost 260,000 euro as a yearling. Market inspections are also required for Ligera, Ricetta and Thowq.

This appears to be the stronger of the two divisions but preference is for GUNMETAL, who won on his seasonal return two years ago. The seven-year-old was sixth in the Wokingham last year off a 9lb higher mark and his two poor efforts at the end of the campaign came on very soft going. Golden Apollo has to be of some interest having won the Ayr Silver Cup when last seen, while Silent Echo and Saaheq both merit each-way consideration.

A chance can be taken with DREAM TODAY, who ran well multiple times in much stronger race than this at Meydan earlier in the year and that includes two second-placed finishes off this mark. Spirit Of May ended 2019 with back-to-back victories on the all-weather and he merits respect on his seasonal return. Highland Dress is another with valid form claims, while Betsey Trotter and Ice Lord complete the shortlist.
