UK Horse Racing Tips: Haydock

KING LEO has plenty going for him on paper. John Gosden's colt is by former Middle Park Stakes winner The Last Lion and is a half-brother to a 5f Group 2 winner as a juvenile, plus he fetched 170,000 guineas at the sales. He is taken to strike on debut, though Golden Flame has to be of interest for Mark Johnston despite appearing to be bred to stay further. Realist is related to some useful juveniles and merits respect, along with Devious Company.

Both penalised runners won their last races well, with Newbolt scoring at Chelmsford and Ajax Tavern winning with some authority on debut at Lingfield. They have to be respected in this, though it could be worth taking them on with BAASHIR. Charles Hills' colt is related to a couple of sprint winners, but his dam is a half-sister to 1000 Guineas heroine Ghanaati so this trip could prove ideal.

MADE FOR ALL ran a cracker on heavy ground here on debut and though she didn't cover herself in glory on her second start at Yarmouth, the return to this track could help Karl Burke's filly. Arctic Vega did the job well on debut at Kempton and has to be respected, while John Gosden's 200,000 guineas colt Lead Singer could prove the pick of the newcomers in this.

MOUNTAIN BRAVE has already shown plenty of ability this season, winning back-to-back races at Wolverhampton and Newcastle in February. She has been raised a total of 11lb for those successes, but showed no signs of stopping last time. Beauty Choice got within a neck of success in testing ground at Doncaster on his last start as a juvenile and could go well, while More Than A Prince won nicely at Brighton when last seen and could go close.

Astro Jakk has won two of his last three, but those came on Southwell's unique Fibresand and his record away from there is a lot more hit-and-miss, while Celsius bagged a hat-trick of successes last term but ended the season on something of a low note at Ascot. Acclaim The Nation wasn't beaten far into fourth at Wolverhampton last time and has claims, but preference is for DANDY'S BEANO, who won a couple of small-field events before being pitched into Listed company last time. Kevin Ryan's mare was not disgraced in sixth that day and could be feasibly treated off a mark of 87.

INTISAAB ran a cracker to be second at Newmarket on Friday and providing that hasn't taken too much out of him, he can go one better here. Stablemate Muscika got within two lengths of the winner off this mark when last seen and has claims, while Triggered was not the most consistent last term, but is interesting on his debut for Mark Loughnane having been gelded over the winter. Only Spoofing is likely to be another serious player here, especially if the ground eases any more.

BE MORE made it two wins from three starts when scoring at Newmarket in October and if she returns in similar form, Andrew Balding's Shamardal filly could prove a tough nut to crack. Brains has been a revelation on the all-weather over the winter, winning off a mark of 59 at Kempton in December and scoring another three times since, though he is now 34lb higher than that first victory. Brian Epstein was impressive when landing the spoils at Musselburgh when last seen, but an 8lb higher mark and a year-long layoff are concerns.

Plenty here have strong claims for victory, but perhaps none more so than BEAUTIFUL ILLUSION. Charlie Appleby's filly maintained her unbeaten record when successful at Chelmsford last time, despite giving the runner-up 14lb. She could go well, though Lingfield winner Made In Italy, Newcastle scorer Salsada and Southwell victor Finery all look useful sorts. Rainbow Jet ran well in really testing ground last year and is another to note if there's further rain.

MY VISION went close on debut at Wolverhampton but struggled in a subsequent start at Dunstall Park. He has been gelded since, though, so could return in something like his debut form. Will Sommers was a respectable fifth on debut at Ayr and could go well on his return, while Isola Bella May made up for a slow start to finish third on her debut at Nottingham and looks likely to be suited by this trip.

Our Girl Sheila and Queen Of Camelot both ran respectable races on their respective debuts, with the former in particular shaping as though this longer trip will suit. Albaflora appears the pick of the newcomers on pedigree, but this could go the way of CELESTIAL BLISS. Kevin Ryan's gelding got within a length of success over 7f on debut last year and is related to a number of middle-distance horses, so this trip looks an ideal starting point.
