Course-and-distance winner SLEEPING LION finished 2019 with a win in the Mallard Handicap at Doncaster and James Fanshawe's five-year-old, who has a decent record when fresh, could have a big part to play on his return off only a 3lb higher mark. Away He Goes wasn't beaten far by St Leger winner Logician when second on debut before impressing with two victories in novice contests and he makes plenty of appeal on his handicap debut now tried in first-time cheekpieces. Rajinsky has won two of his last three starts and appears to be on the up, with Laafy also entitled to plenty of respect.

Moll Davis looked a useful performer last season, winning twice and ending the campaign with a podium finish in a Listed race at Nantes. She performed with credit on her reappearance at Newcastle last week and could have more to come off the same rating. However, a chance is taken on John Mackie's LUNAR JET, who was a little further back in that aforementioned Gosforth Park contest and is entitled to be sharper for the outing.The six-year-old has won on both appearances at this course (both coming over this trip) and is 3lb lower than his most recent victory. Aweedram's best would put him thereabouts, with Restorer and Just The Man others for the shortlist.

Mark Johnston has made a fast start to the season with his juveniles which means that QAADER has to be of some interest. His price tag increased from 44,000 euros in February 2019 to 110,000gns in October and the son of Night Of Thunder is from the family of the multiple Group 1 winner Shirocco. Spanish Colt has a sharper pedigree, being by Kodiac and out of a half-sister to the Nell Gwyn winner and Albany second Sandiva, and he merits a place high up on the shortlist. Others to consider are Running Back, Temple Bruer and Marsabit.

AL WATAN has to be of some interest given that he is a son of Dubawi and the first foal out of a Grade 1-winning mare in Argentina, while it should also be noted that he was one of his trainer's nominated two-year-olds. Majd Al Arab is likely to be well forward judging on how well the yard have done with their juveniles so far this season, while Mr Trick and Paws For Thought complete the shortlist.

LOVE AND THUNDER could prove a tough nut to crack on her first start for John Gosden (formerly with Andre Fabre). The form of her debut second at Deauville is rock solid, with the winner recently placed in Listed company, and stepping up from 7 1/2f will play to her strengths. Salisbury 7f second Alash Orda should also appreciate stepping up in trip and she must enter calculations, while Jaaizah and Kew Palace make most appeal of the newcomers.

Having two runs under his belt could prove crucial as ENCIPHER bids to follow up a 7f course victory from last July. The extra three furlongs on offer will suit the son of Siyouni, who is fancied to have a successful three-year-old campaign. Al Madhar and Vintage Rascal are both one from one and have to be respected, while Inherent makes most appeal of the newcomers representing powerful connections.

Both of them showed signs of inexperience and promise to be suited by a step up in trip, but the vote goes to JACKSONIAN. His sole outing saw him finish second to 2000 Guineas fourth Military March at Newmarket in July and the son of Frankel comes from a blue-blood family which includes one of Juddmonte's top broodmares, Hasili. The once-raced duo of Arabian Warrior and Galata Bridge add further spice to what is likely to be an informative contest.
