UK Horse Racing Tips: Fairyhouse

ASTADASH stormed home in the final furlong to be beaten a head and half a length into third on debut and makes plenty of appeal on the back of that. Considering she was a moderate 10th at the furlong pole, she showed a terrific turn of foot. She holds a Group 3 entry in the Munster Oaks at Cork next month. Camelot filly Rosa Albertine has an entry in the Irish Oaks. There was plenty to like about her staying-on fourth over a mile at Navan in October. She should come into her own stepping up in trip, and is a significant threat. Slaney East's fourth place, at 40/1, in a fillies' maiden at the Curragh just over a year ago was a respectable performance after being hampered in the early stages. Jessica Harrington introduces Serene Spirit and it goes without saying that a market check is essential. Zofar Zogood was unplaced in two good races last season and is very much the dark horse.

Jessica Harrington's YULONG MAGICREEF can improve on his debut sixth in a maiden over this trip in the Curragh. That race was won by Galileo Chrome who is in the mix for the Irish Derby on Saturday. Yulong Magicreef was just over three and a half lengths behind the winner in what could yet prove to be very solid form. Alghazaal has each-way prospects after keeping on for a never nearer eighth in a big field at Leopardstown. Joseph O'Brien's Nordic Aurora is interesting as a half brother to a Group One winner in France. O'Brien and jockey Shane Crosse teamed up to win with a newcomer at Navan on Tuesday. O'Brien also runs Hozier who took sixth in what looked a hot maiden at Leopardstown. Pontchateau was only 5/1 for his first start at Roscommon and kept on well for fifth after a tardy start. He can get involved.

HOWLING WOLF could go well at an each-way price in a very competitive race. He started last season with a close third in a maiden at the Curragh that has thrown up a plethora of winners, and then beat Santiago in a median auction maiden at Leopardstown. Santiago won the Queen's Vase at this year's Royal Ascot and is the current favourite for the Irish Derby. Howling Wolf wasn't disgraced when unplaced in Group 2 company at Foxrock and Listed class in Dundalk (behind leading Irish Derby hope Crossfirehurricane). Howling Wolf is certainly tempting off a mark of 87 and Luke McAteer takes a further 7lb off his back. Kerandi is an intriguing runner having won his maiden on the Polytrack at Dundalk in March. After that victory, jockey Ronan Whelan commented that he thought he would be better on grass and that he would improve in every sense of the word. Mythologic is race fit from a fourth at Leopardstown while Silvertown, Mr Mooj and Protagonist all bring winning form to the contest.

MUSALSAL suffered a rough passage over course and distance last week before staying on well for third close home. If he can put it all together he can win of these handicaps, as he is not on a bad mark at all. Amazing One landed that aforementioned race when it opened up for him in the final furlong. He has gone up 4lb for that, and has a higher draw this time, but rates a danger as an in-form runner. There could be another one in him. Reverberation was last seen winning an apprentice handicap at Dundalk in March. Life is harder as he competes off 8lb higher on turf, but he does have Gavin Ryan's assistance again. Eacharn, Beleaguerment and Billyfairplay are others capable of landing a blow.

TRIBAL PATH is already an eight-time winner who could win again here. His rating has fallen to a low level in recent times and he has competed well from similar marks over this trip at Dumdalk last winter. He is a proven performer on testing ground on grass and should go close today with Colin Keane a notable booking. Pulsating is another eight-time winner but all those wins were on the all-weather and he is 0 from 17 on turf. He is at least proven at this trip but would ideally prefer a fast turf surface. Crystal Dawn, a well bred type, makes her debut for Gavin Cromwell here and is somewhat noteworthy. She showed up well in an ordinary Claimer on her most recent start and could some more improvement is possible. Farnese was well held on his first start for his new trainer at Leopardstown latest and while he has winning form at a mile, would also ideally prefer a fast surface.

POWERSVILLE has the widest draw to overcome but can gain a fifth career win. She is a capable performer at this level and, importantly, has an ability to handle easy ground and comes into today's race following a good third placing at Naas recently. Swiss Army Officer progressed in Dundalk handicaps last winter and while he probably wouldn't want soft ground, he also runs over this 6f trip for the first time. Garvan Donnelly has done an amazing job with 15-time winner Plough Boy but he was taken out of Navan on Tuesday due to slow ground and similarly slow ground today would be a definite concern today, despite being proven at this trip and now being allowed to compete once more in this 45-65 grade. Baby Power was behind Plough Boy on their latest meeting but he, too, would ideally prefer a lively surface, while Bellick's bets form has also been on the all-weather and on a sound surface.

OROMO might be able to follow up her recent course win despite a wide draw in 16. He is clearly no star but has nonetheless won over hurdles in the past and while he goes well on fast ground, also seems to cope with easy ground and should be able to figure from a 3lbs higher mark than when winning here recently. Princess Zoe filled the runner-up berth at Navan on Tuesday and must be considered following that promising Irish debut, being a consistent performer in her native Germany in 2018 and '19. Cliff House is a capable dual-purpose type who is now 10 but could play his part being a proven soft ground performer. Getaway Queen showed improved form when winning twice at Dundalk last winter and while well held in a heavy ground handicap hurdle on her latest start, is surely better suited to today's sounder surface and can get involved.

DEMOPHON might be able to win on flat debut for Gavin Cromwell. A very well bred Godolphin cast-off, he showed just moderate form when trained in Britain and while he failed to win in 23 flat starts then, seemed to show some improvement when winning a handicap hurdle at Down Royal in March. He now reverts to the flat from a low rating and were he to confirm that recent improvement, should play a big part in the finish today and is proven on most surfaces, except heavy. De Mazzaro is similarly ground-versatile having won a Galway handicap hurdle on soft last October. He comes here fit and well having won a similar race at today's venue 10 days ago and should go well racing from 4lbs higher today (he won from a mark of 45 latest). Shoulda Lied was a Supreme Racing Club refugee when bought for just 4,000 euros last October and were he to replicate last year's form, has solid claims being a proven performer at this grade and on easy ground. Camlann normally runs three times at the Galway Festival and is probably best watched from top weight on reappearance today.
