SOUTHERN CAPE can sail home on his second start. He was the subject of plenty of support before his debut over this trip at Leopardstown last month and looked set to score when he went for home over a furlong out. However, he was reeled in by the winner in the closing stages. His breeding is something to behold being by super-sire Galileo out of Tiggy Wiggy who won the Group 1 Cheveley Park. Southern Cape holds a Group 1 entry in the National Stakes. Another Galileo colt, Roman Empire, is unleashed by Aidan O'Brien and also has the National Stakes entry. He has to be given maximum respect.
Prediction : 1st Southern Cape 2nd Roman Empire 3rd Dontspillthestout

MAUD GONNE SPIRIT ran a lovely race on debut in third at Roscommon when seemingly unfancied. She kept on, without getting to grips with the front pair, and the race showed her ability to handle yielding ground. She was nicely clear of the fourth home, and looks sure to progress. Pirate Lass ran well from the front in Gowran Park before finishing third, and is likely to race prominently. Soineanta is an eight-race maiden but has three placed runs to her name. Majestic Sea can come on from her opening eighth in a big field at Naas. That was a race that Puddle Of Luck and Herons Nest finished fifth and sixth in respectively, so they all have a shot at prize money. Sindhia is always popular with punters, but hasn't been placed in three races to date. She could be one for handicaps, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see her do better.
Prediction : 1st Maud Gonne Spirit 2nd Pirate Lass 3rd Soineanta

Balmari sets the standard with a mark of 81. He has attained that on the back of three placed efforts in Dundalk, and now switches to turf for the first time. The form of his last appearance, when runner-up in December, has been endorsed by the winner who then travelled over to Southwell to hack up by eight lengths. The one concern is the ground as his sire's progeny often prefer much better ground than the forecast yielding (with more rain expected). EMIYN could be the one to side with. He travelled notably well on testing ground at Naas in March before finishing a close fifth to Russian Emperor, who has since delivered in a Group 3 at Royal Ascot. Emiyn was a fair fourth at Gowran Park last month on good ground, but it may be that he prefers a bit of cut which he will get. Mosala and Mr Wendell came home fifth and sixth respectively at the Curragh, and can get in the mix.
Prediction : 1st Emiyn 2nd Balmari 3rd Mosala

A very tricky race to weigh up from a punting perspective. Malaysian and Speedy Pix are the only two who don't hold entries in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes. Perhaps SHALE can step up on her opening effort. She ran freely before finishing sixth of seven runners in a fillies' maiden at Leopardstown. That race is beginning to look more than decent as the runner-up came out and won a Group 3 at Cork on Sunday. High Heels is likely to progress from her debut ninth in the Curragh, however, she was a 40/1 shot for that race so may need more time. Dermot Weld's Umneyaat, and Malaysian's stablemate Cycladic could be anything, so the market will be informative.
Prediction : 1st Shale 2nd High Heels 3rd Umneyaat

DARK DESIGN got up to win by a nose over a mile in Limerick and has prospects of following up. After that last-gasp victory, trainer Joseph Murphy commented that the good ground in Limerick was as quick as he would want it. That would suggest he should handle this rain-soaked turf well, off 3lb higher. He has a lovely draw in stall one to ply his trade from. Buachaill Or was the horse caught on the line in Limerick by Dark Design. He attempted to make all from a low draw there and is similarly housed for this contest. Miss Dancealot wasn't far behind the pair in fourth and looks a threat in first-time cheekpieces, with Mikey Sheehy claiming 4lb. Hisnameis Mrdevitt served up a 33/1 shock over this trip in Limerick and Gavin Ryan retains the ride. The horse in third has since won to strengthen the form. The ground is an unknown for him, though.
Prediction : 1st Dark Design 2nd Buachaill Or 3rd Miss Dancealot

CLUELESS HILL is a long-standing maiden, but there is no doubt that he has been given a chance by the handicapper. He was dropped to a mark of 54 in Tipperary and kept on in third, beaten two lengths by the winner. He is up 1lb for that, but still looks to be on a handy mark. The five-year-old is at his best when there is rain around. Newgirlintown makes a quick reappearance after obliging over 10 furlongs in Fairyhouse on Sunday. Connections reported afterwards that she had strengthened up since her previous run, so she has to be feared. Small Town Boy and Keep Believing are others with chances.
Prediction : 1st Clueless Hill 2nd Newgirlintown 3rd Small Town Boy

CLIFFTOP made a pleasing return to racing when third in a 10-furlong contest on yielding ground at Roscommon last month. He travelled strongly there, before his progress petered out in the final furlong. This drop back to a mile (a trip he has previously won over) could see him to good effect. Mountain Fox hasn't scored in 25 starts on the flat, but continues to be well backed. He has come home third on his last couple of starts, and is likely to run his race again. The 10-year-old, Tennessee Wildcat, ran on nicely for fourth at Tipperary. A good run from Clueless Hill (who was a place in front of him) in division one of this race would boost confidence in Tennessee Wildcat. Musalsal was a beaten favourite in fifth at Fairyhouse, but can do better.
Prediction : 1st Clifftop 2nd Mountain Fox 3rd Tennessee Wildcat
