UK Horse Racing Tips: Kilbeggan

TOP LINE TOMMY has Champion jockey Paul Townend up for the first time and perhaps he can make the breakthrough at the sixth time of asking over hurdles. The Morpheus gelding was runner-up to a horse certainly due a win last time, Andrew McNamara's Very Excellent, and the selection is surely going to come on at least a little for that Bellewstown effort. That was Top Line Tommy's first outing for 186 days and the benefit of his hurdling experience could be key here. Jawbox showed plenty of ability in bumpers though still looking a bit green. Eight flights of hurdles could concentrate the grey's mind. With his 118-rating Ruinous needs to be respected. Gavin Cromwell tries a tongue-strap on the son of Aizavoski, and the County Meath handler also has Long March in the mix.

JAIME SOMMERS is back in trip now after her excellent effort to get within a length of Mengli Khan at this venue a week ago. The Milan mare is already a course and distance scorer and it looks a good move on the part of the Bowes to book Cathal Landers for the spin. This has the appearance of a very competitive heat where every pound could count, and Landers' five pound claim is certainly a help. Our Nancy is the only one of these that you'd be putting a line through. Havingagoodtime unseated rider early in a beginners chase at Killarney last time but her 129-rating indicates that she could be a major player. Effernock Fizz's successes have all come left-handed. That's a little doubt. The admirable type is respected nonetheless. Bonarc appeals as one that could be progressive, and she's put forward as the biggest danger to the selection.

That was quite the training performance by Gavin Cromwell to get MOONBALL to win off a 585-day break last time. Of course a boon to her chance now is that the win achieved two and a half weeks ago was over this course and distance. The daughter of Kapgarde has been hiked up by eight pounds in the handicap, and that, allied with the 'bounce factor,' will have some looking elsewhere. However, Gavin Cromwell would hardly be risking the six-year-old if he wasn't happy with her. She's reportedly had leg trouble and the patience afforded to her by connections could be rewarded again. Several of these lack a recent run. One that doesn't is Rasiym. A big performance is surely in the offing from the French-bred, despite his top-weight impost.

Understandably a twenty-raced maiden is not going to appeal to everyone but IAMASTARTOO could be worth another chance. For this sort of level the Well Chosen mare ran into a nice type when beaten by the J P McManus-owned and Madden trained and ridden Dawsons Cottage, at this track and trip 18 days ago. She's been penalised two pounds for that. She should be all the sharper though, seeing as that was her first appearance in 257 days. Of the rest the likes of handicap first-timers Abyssinian and Streets Of Doyen could be dangerous. Kingdom Brunel was due to make his debut for Terence O'Brien at Leopardstown recently. He was unruly at the start and had to be withdrawn then. The Robert Ogden-bred, a brother to Group One racemare Amazing Maria, would be interesting if attracting market support.

He has a mark of 105 now over fences and THE TRIGGER has to be of interest here off 85. The Beneficial gelding showed his current well-being with a success in a Tipperary handicap chase just over a fortnight back. Going a little bit extra trip-wise is hardly going to inconvenience the selection, into the veteran category at this stage. Ocean Glandore has got the job done at Kilbeggan before so he's got to enter the reckoning from the in-form Denis Hogan yard with Rachael Blackmore booked. Golden Nomad and Allduckornodinner are others for the shortlist.

IN YOUR SHADOW had a couple of goes in beginners' chases earlier in the year, and had plenty of horses behind him when second at Leopardstown in March. That was an improvement on his chasing bow at Cork where he jumped left, and that is a concern as he goes back right-handed here, but perhaps he'll put his experience to good use. Course hurdles winner Aprils Joy is on a roll having followed up on the level at Bellewstown, and this point-to-point winner (related to winning chasers) starts out over racecourse fences as a mare in form. Reuben James had useful form over fences back in 2018 but has a long lay-off to overcome, while dual hurdles and point-to-point winner Holy Motivation and Abbi Shore (didn't hang around long over hurdles) are a couple worth a look from powerful yards.

Turning in with two jump at Tipperary, BALLYMAC BOY was travelling like a winner, but a slight mistake at the second last allowed The Trigger (runs over hurdles in the 6.45) to get first run and Mags Mullins' charge just failed to peg him back (Shotgun Sally a distant third). Up 4lbs for that narrow defeat, the selection is open to more improvement in what will be just his third start in handicaps over fences and can gain compensation. Eimear ran into a very well-treated rival when second to Lord Lariat over hurdles at Tipperary, and if she can transfer that form to fences she'll have a big chance. Monsieur Bagot was placed over fences a couple of times when trained in Britain and was second over hurdles at this track last year, so is one to consider despite a long lay-off, while Mossy White's second to Riviera Sun over course and distance last September is strong form at this level and he should benefit from a recent comeback run at Limerick.
