When last seen nine days ago, the son of Hot Streak finished second to an unexposed rival and he remains open to further improvement himself. Heavens Open warrants consideration on her handicap debut, while Fuchsia and Red Stripes are others to note.

SERMON was not disgraced in a handicap at Leicester on his most recent outing and he hit the crossbar in a novice contest at Haydock two starts ago. A reproduction of either of those efforts should be good enough to see off his rivals here. Kingsholm failed to fire in that Haydock event but the ground may have been against him on that occasion. Upstate New York and Blue Cable are others who make the shortlist.

Sweet Joanna went close on her introduction, only beaten a neck over this distance at Thirsk last summer. However, she may have to play second fiddle to the match-fit FREEDOM FLYER, who shaped nicely to finish fourth over 7f at Haydock on debut and could appreciate the drop back in trip. Cotai Again completes the shortlist on the back of some decent two-year-old form and this is much easier than the Sandown handicap he took part in last time.

CRITICAL THINKING shaped nicely to finish third over C&D and the six-year-old is backed to take advantage of the same rating here to get on the scoresheet. Barring a disappointing effort last weekend, Lacan has been in top form since the restart and could bounce back at a venue where he has done well in the past. Shark was a silver medallist at Beverley last month and now makes his handicap debut on his first outing for Adam West, with Good Answer interesting stepping up from 6f.

GAMBON was beaten less than a length when third at Chepstow last month and makes plenty of appeal off a 1lb lower mark and now tried in first-time cheekpieces. Tranchee was in good form on the all-weather in the early part of the year and is respected on his first outing for David Loughnane, while Kupa River could get involved as well.

Zest Of Zambia was only beaten three-parts of a length on her Bath return and is likely to be in the shake-up again, but narrow preference is for the less exposed EXCITING DAYS. There was lots to like about his handicap debut at Lingfield last month, making most before fading inside the final furlong, and he is entitled to improve for that first start since October. Mister Dependable and Olivers Pursuit are others to watch out for.

GOLD STANDARD gets the vote for Tony Carroll and Elisha Whittington. His recent form has been very good and he has won and placed in two previous visits to Dunstall Park. Militry Decoration made a pleasing stable debut for Camilla Poulton at Chepstow and, running off a 1lb lower mark with Ray Dawson claiming 5lb, he warrants respect. Others to note are Windsor third Toybox and Sir Gnet, who ran well enough latest and continues to creep down the ratings.

FIVEANDTWENTY left last year's novice/maiden form well behind when scoring on her seasonal/handicap debut at Ripon 12 days ago, and likely to improve again for this extra quarter of a mile, she could defy a 5lb rise. Nikolayeva was narrowly defeated in a 1m4f Ripon handicap and hopefully she can back that effort up. Bath third Herodotus and Michael Bell's handicap newcomer Ray's The One are others to keep an eye on.
