UK Horse Racing Tips: Roscommon

Just two of the eight runners in the 2006 renewal of this race managed to jump the first flight (in a race won by Rusty Red) and today's renewal of this first three year old hurdle race of the year looks quite a useful one, with preference for JEFF KIDDER. JEFF KIDDER has proven himself a very able flat performer and while he has yet to win in that sphere, his latest two runs were good efforts and notably chased home subsequent winner Shumaker at Ballinrobe last month. JEFF KIDDER would ideally appreciate more of a stamina test over hurdles but hails from a jumps' yard who will have him well primed for this. Similarly Longclaw hails from a jumps' yard and is also a maiden from six flat starts and has shown good ability (he was Listed-placed in American last August). However he has disappointed on his two runs this year and while his jumping should be fine, he comes here with a little to prove with a first-time tongue-tie. Dazzling Darren won three British flat handicaps for current connections last February and has his chance also, as he comes here fit and well and will have no problem at this national hunt trip. Calidus Mirabilis is another with proven flat ability, having won twice, and is also proven at middle-distances and would prefer a sound surface. Little Brother has won on the flat but has a bit to find on flat ratings with some others.

BROOMFIELDS JEREMY has shown useful form in bumpers and can make a winning hurdles debut. He is no star but is well suited by today's race conditions and while well enough held in third at Tipperary last month, the fourth placed horse did win subsequent and BROOMFIELDS JEREMY will be well schooled for jumps debut today. The Great White is registered a chestnut but has the colour, and running style, of Desert Orchid and was a taking point-to-point winner at Tyrella in January. However the six-year-old had a 329 days absence following his debut point-to-point run in 2018 and while the point-to-point he won last January was just an ordinary race, he should be well able to make his presence felt in this average 2m4f maiden hurdle, despite the obvious concern regarding his lack of a recent outing. Seanbhothar, similarly, hasn't run since January when falling at the final flight at Clonmel. He ran well on bumper debut at Sligo last August and while he has a chance on that form, he is vulnerable to more useful types. Four-year-old Pretty Fantasy's rider claims 5lbs and has some claims today having run well from her 98 rating on her latest start.

Golan's half-brother WILLIAM OF WYKEHAM sauntered to victory in an unplaced maiden at Ballinrobe last month and might be able to maintain progression and win this stronger race. The Ballinrobe race was, by definition, a poor contest but it was also WILLIAM OF WYKEHAM's first attempt at a staying trip and he was one of the easiest winners of the year. The handicapper reacted by giving him a 14lbs rise but with the pedigree he has (he was initially trained by Michael Stoute), improvement is likely at these staying trips. Midlands National winner Freewheelin Dylan reverts to hurdles here from a 27lbs lower mark than fences. A dual point-to-point winner, all five of his wins have been over fences and while he is a better chaser than hurdler, he was third in a useful handicap at Clonmel in October and today's 7lbs claimer lessens his burden. Amaulino has a similar profile in that he was second in the Ulster National on his last start and is rated 19lbs lower over hurdles. His Ulster National run was a good effort but his latest hurdle runs were a little underwhelming and he also lacks a recent outing. It is seven years since Tiger Twenty Two won over six furlongs and is now a stayer who comes here with an obvious chance on recent form but whose rating has now climbed to 112. Top Of The Charts won four races last year and while he disappointed at Tipperary 15 days ago, that was his reappearance run and he might improve a little. Chasing Abbey is a previous course winner who has been running consistently well recently. Birdie Blitz was well held latest while Cahirdown Boy is absent wince winning in February and is now rated 11lbs higher.

WESTERN VICTORY will be hard to beat here despite having fallen on her only previous chase run. A capable hurdler, she chased home Honesuckle when second in a Grade 3 contest at Fairyhouse in January 2019 and since won at Listed level at Gowran last October. She was beaten when falling at the second last fence at Thurles last January but has previous winning point-to-point experience and today's opponents appear inferior. Rapid Response might prove next best, having shown useful form over hurdles (she is rated 114 in that sphere). She was brought down when beaten at Tipperary last month and should struggle to beat the selection today. Belle West is a useful mare at a lower level and won at Sligo in July 2019. She was well held at Tipperary in July but has place claims today, along with Le Hachette who is rated 102 over fences and has also won over hurdles in the past.

There might not be much between I'M A GAME CHANGER and Email Rose but preference is for the first-named horse, who can gain a belated first win over fences. I'M A GAME CHANGER is rated 138 over fences and has already been placed at Grade 3 level but has also been a little frustrating. He was 0.5L in front of Email Rose over course and distance last month but did meet minor interference in the home straight and might just confirm placings. Email Rose has shown a nice level of ability in his career and while well touted on career debut, he won his maiden hurdle at this track in June. He has a hurdle rating of 118 in that sphere but should do better over fences and wasn't beaten too far in that recent winners' race, which was his fences debut. Got Trumped was capable over hurdles but might bump into a few too good while Konitho was also quite useful over hurdles but was well enough held on chase debut at Tipperary latest and is possibly best watched for now. Ingleby Mackenzie was fourth at Galway on Friday and has some place claims. Arthur's Quay is best watched on return and chase debut.

OSKAR HIGH is a dual hurdle winner who stays well and he can go close in his first handicap chase. He ran well over an inadequate trip on his most recent hurdles outing at Ballinrobe, and a very capable 7lbs claimer will be on board. Shantou Warrior is another open to improvement over fences, and he scored over hurdles at Sligo last year. Unchago and habitual front-runner Rudy Catrail were placed behind Eimear at Kilbeggan last time, and can get involved, while Give Him Time followed an easy hurdles win at Downpatrick with a fair third over fences at Tramore. Recent form figures don't look too good for Daisy Chicks, but she had some good runs last year including falling two out when in with every chance in this race.

Her half-sister Beret Rouge easily won a bumper on debut at this track in June, and WEARAPINKRIBBON can follow suit. Her dam, a four-time winner, is a half-sister to 2019 Cheltenham Festival winner City Island. O'Carolan is a rare bumper runner for John Oxx and a top amateur is on board. This one's dam won a Curragh maiden and was sixth in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. James Hoban and Papal Lodge are closely matched on form involving Mr Jackman and are respected, while the Aga Khan-bred Kalinda was a promising fourth on debut at Limerick and is another to consider.
