Three horses dominate the market for this novice race and preference goes to the James Ferguson trained RED GENESIS (best priced at 11-4). The son of Camacho improved from his debut effort at Yarmouth to finish 2nd at Lingfield 54 days ago despite being sent off a 33/1 shot. The three-year-old still looked green under pressure on only his second career start but managed to push the 85 rated Arousing to within a head at the finish.

Connections have booked William Buick to take over from Stephen Mooney for this race and I expect him to prove hard to beat if coping with the faster ground.

The handicapper has raised the Ed de Giles trained FITZROVIA (best priced at 11-4) 5lb for winning an apprentice race at Bath last time by 1 ½ lengths but the gelding gets to run here off his old mark making him 5lb “well in” at the weights.

Fitzrovia won on his only previous start at Salisbury last season off a mark of 61 which makes him well handicapped off a mark of 59. Andrea Atzeni takes over from William Humphrey in this race and Fitzrovia is expected to prove hard to beat off top weight.

The mare WALKING FAME (best priced at 15-8) was in good form for Tom Taaffe last season with a victory in a bumper and maiden hurdle but she is now a fascinating contender on her stable debut for Champion trainer Willie Mullins. The six-year-old defeated an 8/13 favourite at Killarney on her final start last season and now makes her handicap debut off a mark of 118 on her first start for Willie Mullins.

This doesn’t look a deep race with top weight Gold De Bois only rated 1lb higher so Willie Mullins isn’t over facing her on her stable debut and she is expected to have improved in the 311 days since her previous run and should prove hard to beat.
