The Harry Eustace trained LATIN LOVER (best priced at 10-3) outran odds of 150/1 to finish 8th in the Super Sprint at Newbury and should hold strong claims if replicating that effort. The son of Starspangledbanner won on his second career start at Beverley by a short head before running well to finish 5th at Yarmouth under a penalty in a better race.

Latin Lover looked a big danger in the Super Sprint 1f out but just faded into 8th (4th of 11 in his Group) late on where he finished around the likes of the 103 rated pair of Vintage Clarets and Chipotle. Latin Lover makes his handicap debut off a mark of 78 and should prove hard to beat with a switch of regular and regular rider George Wood once again on board.

This 0-55 handicap is full of horses out of form so preference instead goes to the recent course and distance winner QUERCUS (best priced at 15-8). The Ann Duffield trained four-year-old started life in handicaps off a mark of 60 but got off the mark last time off a career low mark of 46. The gelding just found 7f on soft ground too far when 3rd on his penultimate start but won nicely over 6f last time by 1 ½ lengths at the finish.

The handicapper has raised Quercus 5lb for that success up to a mark of 51 which seems fair and he is expected to run well in what looks a weak race on paper.

Quercus - 1pt @ 15/8

The John Riches trained MR STRUTTER (best priced at 9-2) has a good record at Catterick with form figures in handicaps of 113148811 including course and distance wins on his previous two starts. The seven-year-old won by ½ length on soft ground off a mark of 55 before following up on good to firm ground 26 days ago off a mark of 59 when defeating the reopposing Hachert by ¾ length.

That rival has since finished 2nd off the same mark so a 3lb weight swing may not be enough for him to reverse form with the selection and I expect Mr Strutter to make it a hat-trick of course and distance wins in a row.
