This looks a competitive novice race with well bred newcomers Tangled Words, Army General and Eklil meeting the proven form of Unilateralism and Razzle Dazzle (best priced at 5/4). Preference goes to the latter who outran his odds of 10/1 to finish 2nd over this course and distance 21 days ago behind a well regarded Godolphin colt who was sent off odds on.

Razzle Dazzle was only beaten ½ length that day and the pair pulled 3 ½ lengths clear of the third Claim The Crown who boosted the form by winning on his next start. Andrea Atzeni takes over on this Richard Hannon trained colt and I expect him to prove hard to beat from Stall 1.

Razzle Dazzle - 1pt @ 5/4

James Doyle has developed a fantastic relationship with Cosmos Raj (best priced at 9/2) and the David O’Meara trained gelding is now 2/2 with him on his back. The three-year-old won over this course and distance in July off a mark of 71 by a length before following up at Ripon by a nose in a three runner race off a 4lb higher mark.

That small field wouldn’t have suited this hold up horse and Cosmos Raj should also be suited by this return to Newmarket. The handicapper has only raised Cosmos Raj 1lb for his latest victory and he is respected dropping back down in class from a Class 3 to a Class 4 handicap.

Cosmos Raj - 1pt @ 9/2

Hopefully Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum has a good day at Newmarket as I also think his representative in the last holds strong claims. Cairn Island (best priced at 9/4) had some good form as a juvenile including when defeating the now 110 rated Perotto in a nursery but was gelded before making his reappearance as a three-year-old.

The form of that run has worked out incredibly well and if he were to be able to progress like his rivals then he would be impossible to beat. The Kevin Ryan trained gelding finished 4th over this course and distance behind Creative Force who won his next three starts including a Group 3 at Royal Ascot and is now rated 27lb higher, Significantly who has won two Ascot handicaps since and is now rated 9lb higher, Jumby who has won twice since and is now rated 7lb higher and a place in front of Rohaan who won his next three starts including the Wokingham at Royal Ascot and is now rated 20lb higher.

Cairn Island was sent off 4/1 co-favourite at Chester on his next start but was hampered and caught back in the field before being looked after by Danny Tudhope for another day. He has been given plenty of time since and he is expected to prove hard to beat off a 1lb lower mark than his Newmarket run on his penultimate start.
