The Sam England trained Mark’s Choice (best priced at 11/4) has a fantastic record at Ripon with form figures in his career of 39114311341 including victories off marks of 73, 80, 69, 77 and 75. The five-year-old had previously been out of form this season but benefitted from a wind operation to win the Great St Wilfrid Consolation race 17 days ago by a length under Cam Hardie.
The handicapper has raised the gelding 4lb up to a mark of 79 which is still workable for Mark’s Choice and he should run well off top weight in this 0-80 handicap.
15:25 Epsom
Otago (best priced at 13/2) joined trainer Jim Boyle from Michael Bell rated 73 but having dropped down to a career low mark of 64, the four-year-old won twice over this course and distance earlier this season. He won impressively by two lengths off a mark of 64 in July before following up a week later off a 5lb higher mark. Both of those victories came under Charlie Bennett before disappointing at Brighton last time under Grace McEntee in a female jockeys race.
The return to Epsom and having Charlie Bennett in the saddle are both huge positives and I expect Otago to run well off a mark of 71 (only 2lb higher than his latest victory) with up to four places available.
16:35 Epsom
The Simon Dow trained Arenas Del Tiempo (best priced at 9/2) started off her winning sequence under Hollie Doyle at Brighton and the pair are now reunited in this race. She is a keen going front runner who made all that day off a mark of 61 before following up at Sandown under Oisin Murphy off a 4lb higher mark using similar tactics. The three-year-old went off too fast last time at Sandown under Luke Morris and eventually finished 6th of 7 having weakened from 2f out.
Epsom is often a track that front runners can grab a valuable lead rounding Tattenham Corner so if Hollie Doyle can time her challenge well then Arenas Del Tiempo should prove difficult to catch late on. She drops back down from a Class 3 0-90 handicap into a Class 5 0-70 handicap and she should prove hard to beat off a mark of 71.
