This novice stakes race has an interesting look to it with the proven form of OUTBREAK (best priced at 11-10) and Point Lynas meeting well bred newcomers Surac, Laatansa and Thermometer. Preference goes to the Mark Johnston trained colt who made an encouraging debut at Chelmsford 12 days ago when he finished 2nd by ½ length to the more experienced Roger Varian trained Claim The Crown.

The pair pulled 2 ¾ lengths clear of the third that day and back in fourth was the favourite New Mission who won a maiden at Epsom on his next start. Outbreak achieved an RPR of 82 for that run which is higher than any of the RPRs achieved by Point Lynas in his six runs so far and I expect the son of Dark Angel to prove extremely hard to beat.

The Andrew Balding trained Australian Angel has been subject to support in the overnight markets on her debut but preference instead goes to the Richard Hannon trained HAMSEH (best priced at 9-4). The daughter of Helmet is a sizeable two-year-old who dwarfed the reopposing Persist when the pair met at Newbury on their racecourse debuts 20 days ago.

Hamseh finished one place ahead of Persist in third that day when only ½ length behind the more experienced Dubai Jewel and subsequent Group 3 5th Clitheroe. She ran green when making her challenge on the wing of the field late on that day but looks sure to come on for the run and it would be a surprise if Persist, who finished 2 ¼ lengths behind Hamseh, could reverse that form in this race.

This looks a competitive 0-110 handicap hurdle but preference goes to the Peter Bowen trained GET AN OSCAR (best priced at 11-4) who was unlucky not to win last time at Worcester. The seven-year-old was running in blinkers for the first time in six runs and it nearly did the trick with the mare only finishing a short head behind the well handicapped David Pipe trained mare Do Ya Feel Lucky.

The handicapper has raised Get An Oscar up to a mark of 95 for that effort but the mare gets to run here off a mark of 92 making her 3lb “well in” at the weights. Her previous win came at blinkers off a mark of 101 so she is clearly well handicapped on old form and this seven-year-old is expected to prove hard to beat.
