It will be frustrating for connections of NOTRE BELLE BETE (best priced at 7-4) that he is still a maiden after six runs but he should be able to get off the mark in this race. The Darren Bunyan trained colt outran odds of 150/1 to finish 4th behind Group 1 winner Poetic Flare on his debut in a listed race at Leopardstown before placing in two maidens at Leopardstown and the Curragh over a mile.

The son of Zoffany returned from a 93 day break last time to finish 2nd in a Cork maiden over 7f where he kept on well at the finish shaping like this step back up to a mile would suit him well. He sets the standard with a rating of 92, showed last time that he handles an ease in the ground and should be able to get off the mark at the seventh attempt.

The second division of this handicap looks a really competitive race but preference goes to the Kim Bailey trained GERARD MENTOR (best priced at 3-1). The five-year-old put in a career best performance last time at Newton Abbott in first time cheekpieces and should prove hard to beat despite now being rated 4lb higher.

The form of his last run has been boosted by the winner Sergeant following up at Sedgefield and I am not convinced his main market rival Serjeant Painter wants this drop back in trip following his victory over 2m2f last time at Stratford when looking need of every yard. David Bass now takes back over on Gerard Mentor and I expect him to win for the first time in his career.

The Katy Price trained ÉCLAIR DES SABLONS (best priced at 13-2) has a good record over this course and distance with form figures of 212 in his career. His victory in April came on good to firm ground off a mark of 97 before finishing a close 2nd (beaten only ½ length) off a mark of 104 on his next start.

Éclair Des Sablons has struggled on his previous two starts at Newton Abbott on soft ground but as a result has been dropped 4lb by the handicapper and he now returns to his optimum conditions off a mark of 102 and looks sure to be involved in the finish.
