The Tom Clover trained ROGUE POWER (best priced at 11-10) finished 2nd by half a length on his handicap debut and he should hold strong claims off the same mark. His best performance in novice races came over this course and distance when 5th in September so the switch from turf back to the AW should prove no concern for this son of Pivotal.

Rogue Power and the winner Prydwen pulled 6 ½ lengths clear of the third that day so the handicapper has decided to raise Rogue Power 5lb for that performance up to a mark of 70 which seems fair. The gelding gets to run here off his previous mark of 65 so he is 5lb “well in” at the weights and that should mean that he is hard to beat.

Only four runners have been declared in this 0-105 handicap which is disappointing but I feel at a current price of 2/7 that the favourite Modern News is far too short. Preference instead goes to the Kevin Frost trained DOCUMENTING (best priced at 4-1) who won this race last year off a 2lb higher mark.

The eight-year-old has always shown his best form on the AW so his 3rd placed effort at Doncaster and 2nd placed effort at Ascot on his previous two starts are extremely encouraging. Documenting is always held up in his races so this small field of four should actually suit him and I expect him to swoop late on under regular rider Trevor Whelan.

The form of the listed Newbury bumper that BILL BAXTER (best priced at 13-8) finished 4th in has been well advertised and he should prove hard to beat on his hurdling debut. The Warren Greatrex trained five-year-old had previously been an impressive 13 length winner at Fakenham before running well at Newbury.

The form of that race has worked out well with the second I Like To Move It winning his first two starts over hurdles, the third Gelino Bello winning on his hurdling debut by six lengths and the fifth Might I winning on his hurdling debut by eleven lengths. Bill Baxter faces Pipesmoker who makes his stable debut for Kim Bailey having left Nicky Henderson but preference goes to Bill Baxter as a result of those form boosts.
