Steve Ryder has three tips for today's racing.
12:40 Redcar
The Richard Fahey trained LIBERATED LIGHT (best priced at 4-1) finished a close third on his debut here 18 days and should hold strong claims upped in trip. The son of Muhaarar is a half brother to 1m4f winners so it was encouraging to see him run so well over 6f on his debut. He was outpaced over the trip but stayed on well to finish a never nearer 3rd beaten only ¼ length at the finish.
The winner and second from that race went on to finish second and third in another novice race last month so there is substance to the form and I expect Liberated Light to get off the mark at the second attempt.
13:33 Lingfield
The Mick Appleby trained COME ON GIRL (best priced at 11-2) has form figures of 12413 at Lingfield on the AW in her career and she is expected to run well back at the venue for the first time since January. She won over this course and distance in December off a mark of 60 before finishing a close 3rd off a mark of 67 10 days later.
Come On Girl has now dropped down to a mark of 61 which is her lowest since her victory in December and that should mean the daughter of Outstrip runs well back at her preferred venue. Callum Shepherd has only ridden three times for Mick Appleby with one victory at 12/1 so he is an interesting jockey booking and she should run well if able to overcome her draw in Stall 10 with up to four places on offer.
13:55 Exeter
Despite running here off a 2lb higher mark than his new official rating, I am willing to take a chance on MOONLIGHTER (best priced at 12-1) at a double figure price. The Nick Williams trained eight-year-old finished only a neck behind Greaneteen in this race last season when receiving 9lb from his rival whereas this year he receives 20lb from last year’s winner.
Moonlighter won at Sandown on his penultimate start last season off a mark of 144 beating the Paul Nicholls trained Dolos before pulling up in the Grand Annual at the Cheltenham Festival. He has been given a wind operation by Nick Williams over the summer and given his good record fresh I feel he is worth taking a chance on against a couple of Paul Nicholls runners who will have bigger targets in the spring.
