The Kevin Ryan trained ROCKPRINCESS (best priced at 13/2) returned from a 51 day break to win on her handicap debut at Redcar and I feel she can follow up here under a penalty. The daughter of Belardo ran with credit in novice races over 5f but looked to benefit from the step up to 6f last time.

Rockprincess made all that day under Tom Eaves and I am hoping that Kevin Stott uses those same tactics again coming out of Stall 12 at Newcastle. The handicapper has raised Rockprincess 7lb for her 2 ¼ length success last time but instead runs here under a 6lb penalty so is 1lb “well in” at the weights and she should run well with up to four places available on the race.

Rockprincess - 0.5pts e/w @ 13/2

The Nigel Twiston-Davies trained THE NEWEST ONE (best priced at 11/4) got off the mark last time in impressive style at Newton Abbott and should be able to follow up here if reproducing that effort. The six-year-old defeated the Dan Skelton trained Soyouthinksoagain by 4 ½ lengths last time and that rival has boosted the form by winning at Wetherby by 2 ¼ lengths on his next start.

The handicapper has reassessed the latest victory of the Newest One as a result and raised him a further 2lb but the gelding gets to race here off a mark of 120 instead which makes him 2lb “well in” at the weights. Zac Baker takes over from Sam Twiston-Davies with his 3lb claim which reduces his 7lb rise and I expect him to prove hard to beat.

The Newest One - 1pt @ 11/4

The James Fanshawe trained SERENADING (best priced at 7/2) has won on her previous three visits to Newcastle and I feel she can still win again despite racing off a career-high mark. The daughter of Iffraaj has won off marks of 65 and 70 over 7f before winning off a mark of 79 when stepped up to a mile last time.

The handicapper has raised Serenading 3lb up to a career-high mark of 82 but that looks lenient based on the manner of her victory last time. She was always travelling best of all under PJ McDonald and was only nudged out to win by ½ length at the finish. Daniel Muscutt takes over for this race and I expect her to follow up back at her favourite track.

Serenading - 1pt @ 7/2
