11:40 Lingfield

The Matt Crawley trained OWEN LITTLE (best priced at 2-1) had shown very little on his first three career starts but outran odds of 200/1 to finish 2nd on his handicap debut in September. That run was over 1m4f at Kempton before getting off the mark when stepped up to 2 miles at the same venue 32 days ago.

Jockey George Rooke struggled to get the blindfold off Owen Little last time so he lost ground at the start but he still managed to stay on well late on to beat the reopposing Smith by a head at the finish. The handicapper has raised him 3lb for that victory which seems very fair and Smith has since boosted that form by winning over this course and distance last time off a 2lb higher mark. The handicapper has raised Smith a further 2lb so he is actually 1lb worse off with Owen Little in this race and as a result I think the selection will confirm form with his rival.

12:10 Lingfield

Many of this field are open to improvement now handicapping but preference instead goes to the Phillip Makin trained BRAZEN AKOYA (best priced at 3-1) who has form figures of 1211 in handicaps. The daughter of Brazen Beau has won at Wolverhampton and twice at Newcastle so far this season but should be suited by Lingfield as a front runner.

Brazen Akoya made all at Newcastle on her penultimate start by a head off a mark of 56 before defying a 3lb rise to make all last time by a short head. The handicapper has only raised her 3lb for that victory and connections have now booked George Rooke to take off 3lb which negates her rise. She is well drawn to attack from Stall 4 and I feel she should prove hard to beat.

Brazen Akoya - 1pt @ 3/1

16:45 Newcastle

Hopefully, the eight runners all remain in this 0-85 handicap as I feel LEAD STORY (best priced at 17-2) is overpriced to hit the frame in this race. The Karl Burke trained three-year-old won on her first start at Newcastle last time over this course and distance off a mark of 69 when she defeated Key Look by a nose showing a good attitude at the finish. That rival has since boosted the form with a 2nd placed finish and a win since and she is now rated 4lb higher.

The handicapper has only raised Lead Story 2lb for her win and despite her now going up in class from a 0-75 Class 5 to a 0-85 Class 4, she should run well with Pierre-Louis Jamin booked for the ride.

Lead Story - 0.5pts e/w @ 17/2
