Allaho came out victorious against a strong field in the John Durkan, prompting movement in the Cheltenham 2022 ante-post markets.
2022 Ryanair Chase
Saturday’s star-studded John Durkan Memorial Chase saw Allaho take victory with an assured performance.
The win has prompted bookmakers to cut odds for him to win the Ryanair Chase for the second year running to 3/1 and as short as 2/1 with some bookmakers.
The seven year-old trained by Willie Mullins stayed on well to fend off challenges from Janidil and Melon who finished in second and third respectively.
Allaho’s price has also shortened in the Champion Chase ante-post market, having been clipped from a best price of 16/1 to 14/1.
At time of writing, some dramatic price differences remain in that market with one bookmaker pricing Allaho as a 7/1 shot for the Champion Chase.
One question mark reamins in the wake of the John Durkan in the form of Asterion Forlonge. The seven year-old was travelling well and providing a significant challenge to Allaho before falling at the second last.
However, there is still optimisim that Allaho can back up his hugely impressive 2021 Ryanair Chase victory at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival.
