GYTO's Monday notebook double pays 8/1.
12:30 Plumpton
Despite pulling hard SONNING (best price 2-1) still had enough in the tank to pull clear and win impressively at Catterick last month. That was quite impressive and if he can drop his head here and get a nice toe in I think he’ll be coming up the Plumpton hill best of all as he does look a horse with gears. It’s by no means a weak race though and Stream Of Stars is likely to put up some resistance. He did it nicely at Ludlow and also looks a promising horse going forward. Aucunrisque represents the Chris Gordon yard who have won the last two runnings of this so he could go well on hurdles debut but I prefer to side with those with experience. Any Given Sunday won at Huntingdon and while I was quite impressed with that the form doesn’t look up to much so he is definitely going to need to improve especially to trouble the selection.
16:30 Wolverhampton
Oasis Dream colt STOCKPYLE (best price 2-1) who is a half-brother to the yard’s stablestar Pyledriver ran an encouraging race on debut to go down a length and a quarter into second. He looked a bit clueless when asked to get competitive but I think on raw ability alone he ran on into second. The winner looked a nice colt for Godolphin and the form has been given a small boost since with the fifth Macchiavello looking a work in progress running well to finish third on his next start. He will need to improve to win this of course but you’d be surprised if he didn’t and he could be one to follow not just today but going forward as well. Magical Dias is vying for favouritism at the time of writing and she caught the eye when a close third at Lingfield so she does look the danger with usual improvement. Libertus went off a big price on debut and should also be wiser now.
