After such a promising win at Ayr BILL BAXTER (best price 11/4) was a bit disappointing last time but he just didn’t jump well enough and it’s early days so I do think he is worth another chance. He goes up in trip and stamina should be his strongpoint. That was only his third run over hurdles so he remains open to further improvement and I think he can take advantage off an opening mark of 119. Gavin Sheehan is back in the saddle too which is definitely a big positive given how well he has been riding lately. Be The Difference was a drifter in the betting when beaten into third at Ffos Las but did run well so has to be respected. His mark looks about right though so not certain how much more he has to offer. Art Of Diplomacy looks the danger having won well at Ludlow and then only gone down narrowly at Hereford last time.

The standout in this field looks to be MAWKEB (best price 9/4) for Mick Appleby. This son of Kitten’s Joy went down just a short head over 7f here on debut for this yard and is entitled to improve from that given it was his first start back from a break. The pair pulled 3 lengths clear from the rest and he was doing all his best work in the closing stages suggesting this step up to a mile will prove ideal. He runs off the same mark and is clearly the one they all have to beat on recent form. Naval Captain could emerge as the danger as he overcame clear signs of inexperience to make a winning debut before finishing fourth at Southwell. Like the selection he remains unexposed so should have more to offer. Broctune Red loves it here and is another one to consider if managing to secure a better position this time.
