Following a 5/4 winner yesterday, Steve Ryder is back with three selections for today's action.
14:20 Newcastle
Grant Tuer had a fantastic season last year and I am hoping that form continues with BLAZING HOT (best priced at 5-2) dropping down in trip for this race. The five-year-old has been in good form since joining this stable from Paul Collins and he won over this course and distance in December off a mark of 54 under Oliver Stammers. The handicapper raised him 6lbs for that 2 ¼ length victory and he has run with credit on his previous two starts since at this course.
Blazing Hot finished only a neck behind Sir Hector over 6f off a mark of 60 before finishing 2nd again over 6f last time off the same mark. The handicapper has raised him 1lb up to a mark of 61 but he should be well suited by this drop back down to 5f and should prove hard to beat under his regular jockey Oliver Stammers.
16:30 Chelmsford
The Roger Teal trained CINZENTO (best priced at 2-1) won this race last season and he should hold strong claims again this year. With a mark of 48 he is well suited by the weights in this race and he put in a much better effort last time at Southwell in December. The six-year-old finished 5th off a mark of 50 when only beaten 5 ¼ lengths earning him an RPR of 53.
A repeat of that effort should be good enough to win this race and hopefully Cinzento can repeat his victory in this race last season.
18:30 Chelmsford
CHANNEL PACKET (best priced at 11-2) has a really consistent record at Chelmsford with form figures of 5156333335341343 in his career at this venue and he should run well again here. The eight-year-old was only beaten ¾ length over this course and distance in November off a mark of 55 and has now dropped back down to the same mark.
Channel Packet has finished well beaten on his previous two starts but those were at Kempton and Wolverhampton so this return to Chelmsford will suit and I expect him to be involved in the finish with Theodore Ladd claiming 3lbs.
