Victory over C&D last month took GRAN LUNA’s overall record to 4 wins from just 6 starts and she looks a thoroughly progressive mare. She looked to need the run when down the field at Taunton on return and made no mistake showing a cracking attitude under pressure to get back up over track and trip last time. The front pair pulled readily clear and a 2lb rise looks unlikely to anchor her here. I think Nico de Boinville might make even more use of her this time around and she is going to take a lot of pegging back. That was just her fifth start over hurdles so she remains open to further improvement and should be better than her current mark. I think Voice Of Calm is the obvious danger again but she has a habit of finding one too good so I’m not sure she is up to reversing the form. Megan may well end up finishing third again so the betting has this spot on.

I expected better from Mawkeb at Newcastle last time and while he stuck to the task once headed he might be up against it again here with LUCAYAN arriving on a five-timer. The latter and improved no end recently and despite coming wide she ran on strongly to win again over track and trip last time. She is turned out quickly under a penalty but should take all the beating again if in similar form. Probert has developed a good partnership and he will be delivering her fast and late again. Mawkeb is probably the danger but Dark Company might go well for a long way. He is likely to be ridden aggressively and I wouldn’t want to see him get too much rope. He ran well when second at Wolverhampton so has claims if building on that. Takeonefortheteam also has to be noted but this does look a bit tougher than that last contest he ran in so he will need to improve.
