WAKOOL (best price 9-4) has improved at a rapid rate of knots since upped to three miles and, following another emphatic display at Ayr last time out, Nick Alexander’s gelding is fancied to make it four on the bounce.

Starting his winning spree back in May, his only defeat in his last five outings came a month later at Perth, but since returning to action after a 150-day break, the son of Motivator has continued to thrive. A dual winner over today’s C&D, the six-year-old grey was arguably even more impressive on

his latest outing 35 days ago, winning without seemingly coming out of third gear, and if the time figure is clear guide to his performance levels, even a rise to 131 might not be enough to stop him going in again. Not only did he post the fastest overall time on the card, his final circuit was also the quickest on the hurdles course at the Scottish venue, so it’s clear he’s a horse at the peak of his powers at present. Based on those findings, the faster the pace today the better his chances will become, and with his course knowledge also likely to count for plenty in the final analysis, he gains the vote over Brorson, the other big improver in the field.

AFCON concludes on Sunday evening with two continental giants meeting in the final as Senegal face off with Egypt.

The Pharaohs will be hoping to go one better than 2017 where they lost late on to Cameroon but history is on their side, no nation has more AFCON trophies than Egypt.

Senegal arguably have the strongest squad of all sides at the tournament and they’ve negotiated their way through quite cleverly, few sides have improved as much as them. Having said that, they’ve had the easiest run of all sides with Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso the sides faced in the knockout stages.

All the talk will be about Sadio Mane vs Mo Salah in the build up to this one and both do top the goalscorer market. The outright market does say that Mane has the stronger supporting cast though as Senegal are the fairly strong 1/2 favourites to lift the trophy.

A couple of other beneficial factors for Senegal is the fact they’ve had an extra days rest and crucially they didn’t have to play out extra time whereas Egypt did.

It’s likely to be an incredibly tight and tense affair, as most finals are. It’s hard to look past the draw at a shade under 2/1 as the risk averse nature of both sides could come to the fore.
