14:10 Southwell
With three wins from his last four starts the progressive PRINCE ABU (best price 7/4) can strike again at Southwell on Friday. He was definitely suited by how the race panned out at Kempton as the pace collapsed and he stayed on strongly from off the pace. He’ll need those sort of circumstances to happen again but with the potential for Orin Swift, Mukha Magic and Be My Sea all to push forward who is to say it won’t play out like that again? He carries a 5lb penalty but remains unexposed over this trip and I think he is the one to side with again. Black Kalanisi came back to form on the level to win here last month and has to be respected but he is up 3lb and is unlikely to improve on that. First Charge really let backers down last time but if he bounces back he could be a greater danger to the selection.
17:15 Chelmsford
This should be a good race between the front pair but it’s LITTLE RAVEN (best price 13/8) I’m keen to side with for George Boughey. This colt by Iffraaj travelled really well at Wolverhampton before running on to prevail by a neck. The front pair pulled nicely clear and the runner-up Twistaline has performed creditably in defeat since. He backed that up at Newcastle last time justifying short odds in good style. He is up 4lb and this is tougher but he remains open to improvement going up in trip and I think he can get the better of fellow hat-trick seeker Midgetonamission. The latter has also impressed lately but she is up 6lb and to me this looks a deeper contest than last time. Cicely came home well off a good gallop to win at Wolverhampton and also has a squeak but there isn’t much pace on here.
