The way SOARING GLORY (best price 13-2) won this last year was very impressive and despite carrying top-weight this time around I think he can defend his crown. He ran out a convincing winner on return at Ascot readily putting Boothill in his place and while he has been beaten the last twice he has had excuses. He is an enthusiastic individual and I think it’s quite clear small fields don’t play to his strengths. He never really found any rhythm when last of 4 here back in November and while he shaped better when third to Epatante in the Christmas Hurdle again he couldn’t show his true colours. Back into handicap company with a strong pace to aim at I think he’ll come home well under Jonjo O’Neill. Jpr One looks the danger with more to come but lacks experience and might find this test coming too soon. Similar comments apply to Broomfield Burg as impressive as he has looked.
