The improving GREEN VAULT (best price 5-2) can strike again back at Ayr for Lucinda Russell. This horse ran out an impressive winner at this track last month ridden well off the pace before cutting through them and staying on well at the finish. He backed that up just shy of this distance at Bangor last time and showed a good attitude to go clear in the closing stages. This is undoubtedly tougher especially up 9lb but he looks a horse on the up and given he is unexposed over 3 miles in testing ground the hat-trick may well be on the cards. Stolen Money also arrives on a hat-trick after winning over this trip at Carlisle and then even more easily at Haydock last time. A further 8lb rise asks a lot more though and this is a tougher race now. Ned Tanner won at Kelso last time and an opening handicap mark of 112 also gives him a squeak.

Dusky Prince is clearly a talented horse but he often struggles to channel it in the right direction and while he impressed when a fast-finishing third at Lingfield he is by no means a certainty to back that up. I’m not convinced this track suits him so I’m keen to side with ALASKAN JEWEL (best price 5-2) instead. This filly by Kodiac deserved to get her head in front on return at Wolverhampton last month and off just a 2lb higher mark I think she can follow up here. She was briefly denied a run when coming through last time and did well to get up close home. She should get a nice toe in the race and if things pan out favourably hopefully she’ll be finishing best. Tilly The Filly is obviously bred to be pretty useful being by Caravaggio but she is going to need to take a sizeable step forward on handicap debut to land a blow in this competitive event.
