Despite the presence of last time out winners Shot Boii and Bellamy’s Grey, this looks a below-par 0-100 handicap hurdle and I think it is worth taking a chance on both T’ARAISON (best priced at 9-1) and ADVANTURA (best priced at 9-1) with up to six places available.

T’Araison makes his handicap debut having finished beaten 63, 33 and 49 lengths in novice/maiden hurdles so far this season but should improve now switched to handicap company off a mark of 95. His runs have come over just shy of 2m4f previously so this switch to nearly 3 miles should suit him well and connections also run him in first-time cheekpieces.

Advantura was another beaten 46, 35 and 36 lengths in novice hurdles before getting backed into 15/2 for his handicap debut last month. That came over just shy of 2m4f at Chepstow when he finished 5th off a mark of 87 and he should be suited by this step up in trip to nearly 3 miles, the application of first-time cheekpieces and the fact the handicapper has dropped him 4lbs for his latest effort.

T’Araison - 0.5pts e/w @ 9/1
Advantura - 0.5pts e/w @ 9/1

Freddie Gingell gave WEST APPROACH (best priced at 5-2) a great ride to win for the first time since November 2019 last time and the pair are expected to follow up their latest victory here. The twelve-year-old was previously a high class horse rated 154 who has ran well in his two hunters’ chases so far this season.

West Approach beat Alcala by 21 lengths in a match race last time at Wincanton where he jumped extremely well on the good ground. He has good form previously on heavy ground so that switch shouldn’t inconvenience him and I much prefer his chances over Dolphin Square who has been hurdling for his previous four starts and was beaten at 1/2 in his last Hunters’ Chase.

West Approach - 1pt @ 5/2

17:45 Newcastle

The Grant Tuer trained TOMMY TAYLOR (best priced at 9-4) has won his previous four starts all at Newcastle and despite running here off a 10lb higher mark than his first win, he should be involved in the finish. Oliver Stammers has been fantastic in the saddle so far this season and is currently operating at a 43% strike rate in the last 14 days and he retains the ride on the eight-year-old gelding.

Tommy Taylor runs here under a 4lb penalty for his latest victory where he only won by ¾ length but that was in a stronger 0-85 handicap and he should prove hard to beat off top weight in this 0-75 handicap.

Tommy Taylor - 1pt @ 9/4
