SOUTHERN SAM (best price 11-8) confirmed he retains his ability with an eye-catching third in a novices' handicap chase at Ffos Las on return from a two-year absence. He expectedly got outpaced mid-race but stuck to the task gamely and the manner in which he stayed on strongly to take third indicated that he would appreciate the return to the longer trip next-time-out. He’s entitled to strip fitter for that reappearance run, too, and won’t be inconvenienced by conditions. His current mark of 122 looks very exploitable on the balance of his overall form and he gets the vote to give weight and a beating to these under Harry Bannister.

Liverpool cruised through their Champions League group, winning all six games and scoring a hefty 17 goals in the process. The Reds hardly had to get out of second gear and they’re looking good again with six wins on the trot coming into this one.

Whilst Inter Milan are the current Champions of Serie A and currently sit just a point below table toppers and rivals AC Milan we have seen the disparity in quality between the Premier League and Serie A a fair bit now. Talking of AC Milan, Liverpool have already beaten them on the same pitch at San Siro and they’ll be confident of putting on another strong showing on Wednesday night.

That being said, now we are into the two-legged knockout stage of the tournament it could potentially see a shift in terms of game management. Often in these cases, teams are more risk-averse as they just want to ensure they’re in with a shout in the 2nd leg but recent times in this specific tournament have seen knockout games be goal-filled and truly entertaining affairs.

Perhaps playing away first is of benefit to the Reds here, Jurgen Klopp may try and utilise the counterattack to a greater extent and we’ve seen this side go away in Europe and tear teams apart playing with such a style. Inter are naturally an attack-minded team under the impressive Simone Inzaghi but that approach could be to their detriment against the strong opponents.

With the front players all available for Liverpool it’s hard to see them not score at least a couple of goals and it’s the shade of odds-on about them to score over 1.5 team goals that stands out here. It’s copped in 25 of their 30 games in league and UCL action this term so it’s a surprise to see it not a touch shorter.
