With course form of 122 I have no doubt THE BIG BITE is going to go close at Doncaster on Saturday. He has taken well to fences in the main and I thought he ran right up to form when beaten just a length over track and trip back in January. The winner Funambule Sivola franked the form winning the Grade 2 Game Spirit Chase at Newbury last month so off the same mark I’m expecting him to serve it up to these rivals. King D’Argent finished fifth in that race but he was ridden quietly and was never really put in the race. If he builds on that he may well emerge as the danger to the selection. Cheddleton is a horse I like but he has gone off the boil somewhat and even back in trip I think he has enough to prove off his current mark. Malystic remains open to improvement but might need this back from a break.

Another good race but I couldn’t help but be taken with the way SOLDIER OF DESTINY landed a gamble at Ffos Las last month. That was his handicap debut following a wind op and I thought he always moved through the race like the winner and stayed on relentlessly to win by 8 lengths at the line. The third Yggdrasil won his next start in the style of a promising horse so the form is worth following. He should relish this extra yardage and I think he can defy a 9lb rise before potentially tackling graded company in time. Fuji Flight also looked a useful prospect winning at Hereford so I think this will throw up plenty of future winners. He stayed on well so should give the selection a race here. Major Dundee is on a hat-trick but hasn’t been seen since December now so may lack a slight fitness edge on some of these.
