The way WESTERN MAGIC won over C&D last month was impressive for the grade and I know she was beaten at Newcastle last time but things didn’t pan out as favourably there and she did meet some trouble in the closing stages before staying on. That form has been franked since and back at this track I think she can resume her progress. She has a decent turn of foot and as long as they go a good gallop I think she’ll have them in her sights late on. She has been dropped a 1lb from that last run which I think is generous and she still looks a well handicapped filly to me. The danger is likely Arzaak who has won here before and was a creditable second last time. Back up in trip he should keep the selection honest. Jack Ryan is back in the blinkers and also has to enter calculations but will need to be at his best to upset the selection.

Saisons D’or looked like he’d come on for the run when fifth on return over track and trip. He won this last year off a 3lb higher mark so has to be feared but he might just be bumping into one this time around in the shape of the unexposed KAAHIRA. This Kingman filly ran her best race to date down to this trip at Southwell last month where she was only beaten 2 lengths. She almost certainly has more to offer now sent handicapping and looks to have found a winnable assignment here. Dogged has left Elsworth and is now trained by the in-form Rebecca Manzies and it wouldn’t surprise me if he showed improved form to get involved. The selection should take advantage of a mark of 70 though and might just prove a cut above these. Of the rest Dandys Gold is also respected but she is on a lengthy losing run now so is opposable on the balance.
