Wednesday Racing Tips from Steve Ryder

The short-priced favourite Whydah Gally has fallen twice (including last time) in his seven-race career over hurdles so it will take a brave punter to back him in this race. He is opposed with ONE FOR THE WALL (best priced at 2/1) who only has 7lbs to find on weight-adjusted ratings and comes here following a good 2nd placed effort at Fontwell last time. 

One For The Wall finished 2nd at Plumpton on his hurdling debut in November before finishing well beaten at Chepstow on his next start following a short break. He bounced back to form last time when only beaten 1 ¼ lengths over this course and distance and he should be able to trouble the favourite in receipt of 7lbs. 

MCQUEEN (best priced at 10/3) won his latest two starts since joining Henry Spiller from the Mark Loughnane stable and he should hold strong claims off only a 2lb higher mark. The daughter of Zoffany finished well beaten on her first three career starts before showing improvements in handicaps since changing stables and being fitted with a tongue-tie. 

McQueen won at Chelmsford in November off a mark of 54 before winning over this course and distance in January off a mark of 56 despite being hampered and not getting the clearest of runs in the straight. McQueen has been given a wind operation since her latest run and she should prove hard to beat if in the same form as earlier this year. 

All of the early money has been for the Robyn Brisland trained Ellie Piper but I think the most solid option is POWER ON (best priced at 15/8) who escapes a penalty for his win at Lingfield a week ago. The four-year-old had previously dropped down the handicap from a mark of 72 (March 2021) to a mark of 52 last time.

Power On ran on well under talented claimer Harry Burns to win by ¾ length in an apprentice handicap and he now runs here 6lbs “well in” at the weights. Harry Burns gets to claim his full 5lb allowance and he should prove hard to beat from a good draw in Stall One.
