18:15 Newcastle

I’m surprised 3/1 is on offer about COASE at Newcastle on Tuesday. This horse ran out a very convincing winner when last seen in a Class 5 at Chelmsford last month and he has done little wrong in defeat the last twice. He bumped into a big improver in Enfranchise and then found another progressive horse in Imperial Command too strong here last time. He is up 2lb but looks a cut above this level for me and I think he’ll be finishing best under Franny Norton. Twilight Son filly Cathayensis looks the danger having gone close over track and trip last month before doing well to win down to 7f last time. She is up in class but like the selection gives the impression she is capable of more yet so I think they’ll battle this one out. Abnaa is quite a big pice as he likes it here but a place might end up being his best hope.

We stick on the AW for our second Notebook on Tuesday and DAAFY looks set to gain compensation for his short head miss over track and trip last time. Cam Hardie just got caught further back than ideal having been awkwardly away and while he ran on strongly the winner just about did enough to prevail. He has won 2 of his last 4 and I’m surprised he has been left off the same mark here. A lot like Coase earlier I think 5/2 is big all things considered and I can see him being well backed in the run up to the race too. Patontheback may be the one to emerge as the danger as he has won at this track before and while he was fourth behind the selection when last seen last month he did finish well and was nearest at the line. He is still fairly unexposed so I can see him running well here. Trevie Fountain is also worth a mention on recent form.
