Steve Ryder is back with three selections for today's action with one runner at Musselburgh, one at Newton Abbott and one at Dundalk.
14:20 Musselburgh
The Sandy Thomson trained SARYSHAGANN (best priced at 7/1) is yet to win over hurdles in his career but he has run well to finish 2nd on his previous two starts here and should give a good account of himself. The nine-year-old finished only ¾ length behind Rae Des Champs here over 2 miles earlier this month when he stayed on well at the finish shaping like this small step up in trip would suit.
Saryshagann has had a wind operation since his last run and is also fitted with first-time cheekpieces for this race and I feel he should run well yet again with up to five places available.
16:15 Newtown Abbott
This looks a competitive 0-120 handicap chase with all five horses in with a shout but preference goes to the Seamus Mullins trained ROMANOR (best priced at 6/1). The eight-year-old has been saved through the winter for better ground and he should run well if the ground dries out and he is tuned up sufficiently following 106 days off the track.
Romanor has been extremely consistent over fences with his previous ten runs resulting in form figures of 3112323233 and he comes here off 1lb lower than when 3rd at Taunton in December. Those ahead of him in the market don’t look to hold any stronger claims than him so I feel that his price underestimates his chance.
18:00 Dundalk
The Ado McGuinness trained ALHAJEEB (best priced at 10/1) won over this course and distance on his penultimate start and should hold strong claims off only a 3lb higher mark. The four-year-old gelding won by a neck off a mark of 61 under Ronan Whelan before finishing 4th under 10lb claimer Adam Caffrey last time off this mark.
Alhaajeb was slightly short of room on the bend last time but stayed on well to finish 4th and a repeat effort with a better run through should see him hit the frame again with up to five places on offer.
