Snow Leopardess

The first mother to run in the Grand National for 100 years is the leading British contender and the most backed ante-post for the Aintree race so far this year through oddschecker.

The 10-year-old mare trained by Charlie Longsdon, who had a foal during a two-year absence from the track between September 2017 and November 2019, held off Hill Sixteen to land the Unibet Becher Chase in a photo finish at Aintree in December.

Since the start of this year, Snow Leopardess – now a best price 14/1 with several bookmakers - has taken 6.98% of the bets on the Grand National 2022 through oddschecker.

Any Second Now

Any Second Now has been the consistent ante-post market leader for the Grand National 2022 but remains only a marginal favourite (best price 10/1) for the race in two weeks’ time. The 10-year-old edged out another of the favourites Escaria Ten in his prep run at Fairyhouse last month.

Any Second Now was conceding 8lb to his Gordon Elliott trained rival at Fairyhouse, which will shift slightly in his favour as the pair will carry 11st 7lbs and 11st respectively at Aintree. 

Having taken 6.83% of the ante-post bets for the race since the turn of the year, Any Second Now is the clear second favourite within the oddschecker community.

Delta Work

The third most backed horse (6.03%) has thrust himself further into the spotlight after beating Tiger Roll in his farewell run at Cheltenham in the Cross Country Chase. 

Already popular among punters, Delta Work produced an impressive display and was duly slashed from a general 40/1 into a best price 10/1 joint favourite with Any Second Now.

"The five-time Grade 1 winner jumped and travelled well throughout, proving stamina is very much his strong suit,” said Architect Tips in this Grand National preview focused on the performances of likely contenders at last week’s Cheltenham Festival.

"He’s a massive player if he is able to continue his new lease of life at Aintree next month as he bids to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Tiger Roll, who has certainly passed the baton onto him for Gigginstown stud.”

Escaria Ten

The aforementioned Escaria Ten comes next in our most backed list and remains a big player even if his claims were slightly dampened by the defeat to Any Second Now at Fairyhouse.

However, he did enough to beat the favourite on that day, Willie Mullins’ Burrows Saint, who has subsequently slipped to a best price 25/1 (still 18/1 with one bookmaker). 

Escaria Ten has taken 5.27% of the ante-post bets for the Grand National 2022 through oddschecker at the time of writing and can be backed at a best price 12/1.

Fiddlerontheroof

The final horse in our most backed list for the Grand National is the consistent Fiddlerontheroof. The lifetime race record for the eight-year-old, trained by the Tizzards, reads two wins, seven seconds and a third from 10 runs over fences. He comes in at a best price 20/1 having taken 4.4% of the bets.

Architect said of his chances: "He’s unproven at the trip but certainly a fascinating addition to the race if connections do opt to go this route with him and he’s a leading player if the longer trip can yield any sort of improvement."
